The Royal Marines Commando Challenge takes place across Woodbury Common on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October. Online entries are open until Wednesday at 12 noon, so it’s not too late to enter still.

This year sees the addition of an event village, with stalls, things for children and much more. There are also refreshment stands and a bar. Also new this year is the Royal Marines Commando Challenge Dog Show.

Caroline Creer, on behalf of the Royal Marines Commando Challenge said “Last year we noticed many of those taking part in the event brought family, friends and their four-legged family members along with them. That led us to think, why not do something fun for them too?”

She added “We contacted our friends at Corner House Vets in Exmouth and they kindly offered to organise and sponsor it. We would like to thank them for their support.”

There are 10 classes to enter and it costs just £1 per dog per class, with all funds being donated to the event charities Devon Air Ambulance and The Royal Marines Charity.

The classes are:

  • Cutest puppy (12 weeks to 8 months old)
  • Most adorable golden-oldie (8 years and over)
  • Most handsome dog
  • Prettiest bitch
  • Best child handler (handler should be no older than 12 years)
  • Best working dog or pet of a working breed
  • Best rescue, cross-bred or mongrel
  • Most impressive trick
  • Best matching or mismatching pair (dog and handler)
