The 485 mile route of the Exeter Rugby European Cycle Challenge will take six days to complete, beginning at the home of the Exeter Chiefs, Sandy Park on Sunday, January 10 (8am) and finish at the Stade Chaban Dalmas in time to watch the Chiefs take on Bordeaux Bègles in the European Champions Cup.
The group of 22 cyclists will be fully supported by a coach and mini-buses that will provide food, hot drinks and regular rest stops en route. Rugby clubs along the way have also being contacted to provide additional support during the ride.
Speaking about the Exeter Rugby European Cycle challenge, organiser David Cosford said: “There are a large number of cycling enthusiasts who support Exeter Rugby and this is a great opportunity to combine the two passions as well as raise money for very worthy causes. A visit to Bordeaux to watch the European Champions Cup tie is a worthy prize!”
A page has been set up on Virgin Money Giving to ensure that supporting the event is simple for everyone, more information on this can be found by visiting the Exeter Foundation website and looking at their events section.
The European Cycle Challenge, which is sponsored by swcomms and supported by 5D Group and Exeter Rugby Club, will add to the Exeter Foundation’s non-designated fund, which can be applied for by local projects that are occurring within Exeter and its surrounding areas.
Tony Rowe OBE, Chairman of the Exeter Foundation, who will be helping with the support vehicles for the trip, said: “We are pleased to support this new fundraising event for the Exeter Foundation, which will help raise funds for projects and causes in Exeter.”
