Devon County Council will again be exhibiting at this year’s Devon County Show in our #WeAreDevon marquee, promoting a range of activities that showcase why people should take pride in our county.

The County Council is opening the stand to a range of statutory and voluntary services, adopting a broad and inclusive celebration of what makes Devon a great place in which to live and work.

Naturally there will be a selection of council services, and these will sit alongside other organisations including Age UK’s Men in Sheds, South Western Ambulance Trust, Devon and Cornwall Police, the RD&E Hospital and Devon Disability Collective.

Between them they’ll be demonstrating that by working together and with community groups how they’re helping to improve the quality of people’s lives and local areas in many different ways.

Recycle Devon will be one of the council services present, exhibiting their ‘Big Chill’ campaign, showing Devon families how they can save up to £700 a year by putting the freeze on food waste. Also representing Devon County Council will be Enhance Social Enterprise, who will be offering free drop-in sessions with tea and cake, giving people advice on how to start or grow a successful social enterprise.

Information supporting Devon’s nationally recognised Proud to Care campaign, which is helping care providers recruit more care workers, along with Proud to Care ambassadors will be present. They will be joined by the RD&E hospital recruitment team, and the Devon Partnership Trust who will be encouraging men to talk about mental health.

The Men in Sheds Project, which gets men together to help tackle loneliness, will be bringing along some of their hand-crafted bird boxes and garden trugs along with their ‘before’ and ‘after’ refurbished tools to display.

Devon Disability Collective will be showcasing some of the work their apprentices do with a demo production line for their wheelchair belt making, they will be encouraging the public to get involved by having a go.

Public health advice will be available from One Small Step – the council’s healthy lifestyle service – encouraging people to help themselves take steps towards healthier life styles; with blood pressure checks available from the South Western Ambulance Foundation Trust, who will also be bringing along a paramedic responder motorbike.

Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards and Devon and Cornwall Policehave teamed up to tell visitors how they can be a ‘friend against scams’; how to recognise them, avoid them, report them and how to support victims.

Once again, we’re delighted that social enterprise Love Local Food will be running the café, providing a delicious selection of sweet and savoury food and promoting the benefits of buying local.

Please visit us, on stand 323, Road 8. On Saturday we will be joining the ‘Biggest wedding party in Devon’ and celebrating with bunting, flags and Royal wedding cake!
