Car Share in Devon to win a free tank of fuel

To encourage people to start car sharing this autumn, Devon County Council is launching its popular ‘Win a tank of fuel’ competition once again.

Everyone who registers a journey on the CarshareDevon.com website, sending a request to share, from now until Sunday 26 November will be entered in the draw to win a tank of fuel, up to the value of £100.

CarShareDevon is a well-established website that matches drivers and passengers from across the county who are doing the same or similar journeys.  The website allows you to search for others travelling in the same direction as you, who are either looking for a lift, or offering a space in a car.

Signing up to CarShareDevon and finding other people to car share with can help reduce the environmental impact of vehicles on the road and lower congestion. Car sharers also enjoy the social aspect of commuting with friends and colleagues, saving money on fuel, car parking and vehicle running costs, which can add up to £1,000 a year.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for highways said:

“With 38,000,000 empty car seats on UK roads every rush hour, it’s clear that there’s a huge opportunity to better utilise spare capacity for travel.

“CarshareDevon.com is helping to shape the future of everyday, travel to work journeys. Devon is leading the way by demonstrating that car sharing can be part of the solution to congestion in our towns and cities.”

The Council is also encouraging employers in Exeter, Newton Abbot and Barnstaple to host Travel Devon car sharing events, to help their staff find others to share with. To book an event, or for more information, contact traveltowork@devon.gov.uk
