APi Communications Help Interpret The Past

thebestof Exeter member, APi Communications have been involved in the improved interpretation and completion of a new visitor centre at Denbigh Castle in North Wales.  When visitors cross the drawbridge they now hear the portcullis thundering down, chains rattling and the clatter of horses and marching of soldiers.  This sound system is triggered with a PIR sensor, so that it starts the digital audio player as visitors approach.

Once in the visitor centre, there are 2 projectors, one displaying cheeky past castle characters that appear to pop out of the wall, and help bring the castle’s story to life by introducing themed trails. There is also a sound dome above, so that the narration is confined to a small area of the visitor centre.  The other projector is used to project words in both Welsh and English onto a map.
This historic building required a sympathetic installation and also an agile engineer to install the speakers in the dungeons underneath the walkway!
