One of Exeters longest running restaurants is opening its doors as Exeter’s newest dining experience.

The restaurant at Exeter Golf and Country club has been re-branded as Wear Park Bar and Restaurant offering a seasonal menu of modern British cuisine.

The opening of Wear Park is a revolutionary move for Exeter Golf and Country Club, which has been a members-only establishment at its location on Topsham Road, Exeter for 83 years and another 36 years before that in the Pennsylvania area of the city.

The opening of the restaurant comes during an exciting year at Exeter Golf and Country Club with the opening of the new Gym earlier this year and the subsequent surge in new member numbers.

Head Chef Rob Drackett has created a menu using predominantly local and regional produce for lunches, dinners or private dining.

General Manager of Exeter Golf and Country Club and Wear Park Bar and Restaurant, Martin Halse said,

“We are incredibly excited to be launching a new restaurant experience in Exeter. Of course, our members’ have been able to use the beautiful restaurant within our Georgian mansion house for dining with friends and family for many years, but now it is time to open our doors so that everyone can experience the fantastic quality of the food and drink here. Wear Park really is a hidden gem – set within 120 acres of golf course and landscaped gardens, yet just minutes from the city centre, it is perfect for all occasions.”

Rob is very particular about sourcing the produce used at Wear Park, and has built his career on his astute focus on the produce of food. This background includes years at many of the region’s top restaurants, lecturing at Exeter College and a period of time running his own restaurant in the Champagne region of France, for which he received a Michellin Bib Gourmand.

Martin continues, “Wear Park Bar and Restaurant has an inspiring team of chefs, headed up by Rob who’s creative passion transforms the Devon bounty of local seafood, beef, lamb, cheese and more into modern dishes that are at once deliciously tasty as well as beautifully attractive. Wear Park offers the perfect balance of Georgian excellence with a relaxed modern approach.”

To celebrate the launch of the restaurant, Wear Park Bar and Restaurant are offering a buy one main course, get one main course free when a starter or dessert each is also purchased (exclusions apply).

Rob suggests a great dish to try is Wear Park’s signature dish, twice-baked Devon blue cheese soufflé.
