We spent an enjoyable time watching the beautifull production 'Annie'
Friendly informative staff made the experience all the more enjoyable.
I had my youngest (5yrs) and oldest (18yrs) with me and we all enjoyed it very much.

Very nice show, we thoroughly enjoyed it. First time in there, so was surprized with its size, much bigger than we thought.

This was our first visit, to see Steeleye Span and relive (for the writer) some youthful memories. The venue is really charming and as others have stated, the staff are very friendly. Our enjoyment of the music was marred by a tendency to drown out the (essential) words of their songs with over-loud guitars, drum, bass, which was a shame. But we enjoyed the atmosphere in this charming theatre.

I recently hired the theatre for a charity concert. It is a great Victorian theatre built 135 years ago with a wonderful traditional atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the theatre puts on many good shows. It has a nice bar and comfortable seating with good views of the stage.

We watched the Stage Play - Jerusalem last Thursday at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne. This not so well known play was performed by Pocket Size Theatre Company under the direction of Keith Smith. It was excellent and deserved a much wider and larger audience. It was so refreshing to see something different performed and so true to real life. The of the cast delivered a professional performance throughout and the main character must be singled out for special praise for the both the level of content and its retention plus the realistic delivery it required. I'm sure if this had been shown in Brighton or London it would be playing to sold-out audiences!

Great show was seen by us and our party of 19 taken, Musicality a great night was had by all price once inside were reasonable. It was a shame to be told that there was a chance of it closing for ever and hope the fund raising continues to keep it open.

Very keen volunteers. I had a great unplanned day out seeing old Hollywood dance and sing sketches from old favourites. However, the theatre itself is in need of restoration. I was told Lottery fund money is in its way.

Great show by Joe Pasquale. Had not seen him for some time, unfortunately, but the wait was worthwhile.
The theatre was ideal for his performance although not full. Fellow Eastbourian did not know what they were missintg.

We sat upstairs on this occasion in the Dress Circle because by the time we decided to book to see Joe Pasquale on that Sunday evening, stall seats were very limited. After climbing the many stairs we arrived outside the Dress circle doors where we were greeted by a smiling lady who checked our printed E tickets and told us where to go to find D-11 & 12. We found our seats and sat down to recover from our climb up those stairs. I will just say as we have visited many dress circle and grand circle theaters in London and as they are all old buildings there is no lift, so I am not knocking the Hippodrome Theatre OK. One thing we did notice while waiting for the show to start was because there were not many other seats been sold upstairs, other people were coming in sitting down, and then moving to other seats. One elder couple actually did this three times before being happy with where to sit in the dress circle. The next strange thing we noticed was a gentleman made an announcement we think about not taking photos or videos during the performance, but we couldn't be sure as he didn't use a microphone so it was not possible to hear him clearly. The show started and the first half of Joe's performance was very funny and we enjoyed it as it was clear the rest of the audience did as well. The next strange thing for me, was as after retirement I have become a tech volunteer at the Underground theatre so play audience background music myself, was that the same tracks played before the show started were repeated again. We can't believe this was anything to do with Joe Pasquale.
Anyway we had an ice cream and then the second half was due to start but not before that old couple moved again this time close to us. We mention this seat moving as we have never witnessed it before, as we thought we had bought two dress circle seats and they were ours for the whole show and we had to remain in them, as we have always done in every other theatre we have purchased theatre seats for a show at anyway. The second half was better than the first in our opinion and it finished with an encore before the lights went up and we made the much easier journey downstairs, where in the foyer we were greeted by a gentleman asking for donations. I gave him a pound as I live in Eastbourne and the theatre is in need of some tender loving care due to its age, and also it may help them to buy another CD to play with the other one?
Please support this lovely old theatre guys Sue & John

Visited this venue to see the fantastic Joe Pasquale. Really intimate and cosy venue allowing a great view of the performance. Whilst the venue has a need for further refurbishment, what it has is a warm friendly atmosphere with helpful and welcoming staff. This venue needs visitors in order to help it stay in Eastbourne as it has been for the past 133 years, please don't let it vanish and help support it.

on the 1st friday of every month u can go on a backstage tour, we did today and thoroughly enjoyed it, our guide was most enthusiastic and explained how it came to be, the layout, we even went underneath the stage. the theatre is community owned and as such receives no council funding at all.

This theatre is fantastic. Owned by the community with no public funding it manages to deliver excellent shows for all tastes. We saw the summer variety show 'Musicality' which was a wonderful trip down memory lane. The theatre is run by volunteers and offers great guided tours. Well worth checking out.

I went to watch the show, Musicality, last week, at The Royal Hippodrome Theatre, with my partner and his mother, whilst on holiday in Eastbourne. What a beautiful, old theatre, staffed by friendly, helpful staff. It was like stepping back in time and was reminiscent of watching The Good Old Days on television, when I was a child. This all added to the brilliant show, Musicality.

We were expecting fabulous costumes, amazing singing and entertaining dance routines. What we didn't expect was to be splitting our sides with laughter! I hadn't laughed so much in ages. It was brilliant and the compere of the show really should be on television! He was totally hilarious!! I would urge anyone who hasn't already seen this show to book your ticket immediately! Just superb, from start to finish.

Have been a couple of times and it is an old style theatre.
The first time was for the ghost walk, loved it great fun pitch black so quite tricky in parts as this is a very old and quirky venue and floors can be uneven. Totally recommended.
Second visit was for the "Grumpy old women" tour brilliant evening seats are comfortable and well spaced.
Will definitely go again

I traveled from USA to see Blake's Christmas Classic Concert on December 17, 2015 and to meet the wonderful volunteers who staff the theatre. It was an unforgettable evening. It was my 2nd Blake concert and we had such fun. The theatre is a beautiful building, steeped in history (opened in 1883). Blake is there June 18, 2016 with new Songs of Stage and Screen Tour. I have plans to go back soon to see my friends of the theatre and take the tour to discover all that history. Thank you for making my visit memorable.

I attended the annual British Music Hall Society event 'Day by the Sea', a full day of variety entertainment including music hall songs, comedy sketches, impressionists, magic and even an audience singalong. Top of the bill was the indubitable Roy Hudd ably assisted at times by the Clown Prince of Wales, Wyn Calvin and included that old favourite Mickie Driver in full WW1 livery leading us in some British Tommy songs.
Some of the performers were lesser known but no less able including Brandyn Shaw performing as Al Bowlly, truly mesmerising.
The only down side of the day was the comfort of the seats that after some 9 plus hours left me less than comfortable.
However, that aside this beautiful old building transported me back to the golden times of music hall and variety.
Wonderful building, wonderful show.....can't wait until next year!!!

Just back from holiday and I had to write a review. The show Musicality was fantastic it had everything you want in a show. Dancing, singing comedy and a bit of mystery too. The host Grant Martins was brilliant as well as the rest of the cast. I am so pleased that we found this gem. Highly recommend for everyone to see this show. It is entertainment at it's best.

What you would expect from a lovely old theatre.
It was a shame that the microphones weren't working well on the night of the show.
