Meze Restaurant in Eastbourne deserves 5 stars, as we received a warm welcome by the friendly staff and management to this very authentic Turkish Restaurant. On a recent business trip to Eastbourne we were very pleased to find the Meze.
With a range of mouth watering starters with all the popular Dolma or stuffed vine leaves, Sigara Boregi or filo pastry parcels stuffed with feta cheese and parsley and mezes, this is a real introduction to quality Turkish food.
There was a good array of main course dishes that are cooked in traditional style on the open charcoal kitchen or in clay pots and copper vessels. You can see the chef using all fresh produce and herbs and the aroma's of the warm Turkish village bread from clay oven, is a real treat.
As a property agent specialising in Turkish holiday homes for sale and rent we are lucky enough to visit the country for many months of the year and visit quite a number of Turkish restaurants with clients, property developers and for pleasure and I have to say that Meze Restaurant in Eastbourne is a very good Turkish Restaurant that deserves your custom and will certainly have ours when returning to this lovely part of the UK.
All the best to Meze in Eastbourne and thank you for a lovely evening from all at www.artemisia-property.co.uk

I visited Meze for my birthday this year. I was surprised when I got inside and discovered that the surrounding were authentic and beautiful, while the chairs can be itchy from the fabric I still enjoyed the ambience very much. The service was excellent, we were constantly being brought free samples to try and everything was delivered to our table promptly. The wine wasn't the best to be honest, even the classic wines on the menu were poor quality. The food was fabulous, especially the cheese straws on the starters and the meat dishes were scrumptious too, the portion sizes were a little on the large size and the problem with so many items on the meny is that a lot of the food begins to look the same, especially when the same garnishes are used; I think every plate had tomato and yoghurt on it. However, I was very impressed with this restaurant and I absolutely would visit again. Highly recommended.

We went to meze on the recommendations on trip advisor and were glad we did. Lovely Turkish food cooked over charcoals and good wine. There were some great touches like complimentary hot bread and dips and the food was plentiful and well priced.

We went here on a Saturday night. It was packed, but we managed to get a late sitting. It was well worth the wait. The food was delicious, excellent value and the staff were very friendly.

It's always a pleasure to eat at Meze's. The food is cooked on the charcol coals which is in the dining area and you can see your food being cooked. The lamb is divine, perfectly tender and tastes fab. Good value, great tasting house wine. We had two mains and a bottle of house red for £33. Book in advance for Friday and Saturday nights.

Meze is not situated in the nicest area of town which is why it was a real surprise to us when we went there. This Turkish restaurant serves food that really is different to anything you have had before - it's array of colourful dishes with so many wonderful flavours are a delight . You feel that you have been to all the types of restaurants before and had everything on offer so when We ate at Meze we found that there are new meals and new flavours to discover. Quick service, delicious food, inexpensive, wonderfully different

Went to this restaurant to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Restaurant full before 1930 which speaks for itself, when many others we walked past were nearly empty.
The food and service were very good, we were upgraded to the true Turkish tables which weren't the most comfortable to eat at and toilets need a refurb !!
You can see the food being cooked
which I liked, we all commented afterwards how thirsty we were so less salt next time please and you will hit perfection !! A meal here will supress those with a big appetite. The free maze dishes were very tasty and a nice touch.

Booked for a birthday party....got an oval table with cushions etc......made for sharing the mezes.
With three vegetarians in the party there was a great choice of mezes so we had plenty....nicely prepared, great flavours and variety. Main courses were all good but we were too full for desserts!
Very reasonable bottles of house red helped it all down.Service attentive but unobtrusive; we were last to leave by a long way but it was not a problem for the owner, who was charming and friendly.

we were there last night for a staff party it was our first time out in a turkish restaurant ,on arrivals they give as such a good welkome ,the food was freshly cooked ,i asked the tiger prawns what size they are and the boss told me you got 5 large so as a chef i asked what size 16/20 ? he said not 10/15! so when i got it they were small and infact i had 6 instead of 5, good spicy sauce but value for money not fair!!!

My husband and I visited this restaurant on Sunday oer the bank holiday weekend. We went there after reading the reviews on this site. My husband is a fussy eater and he was not at all sure he wanted to go to this restaurant as we have been misslead by reviews before. It does not look much from the outside but we went ahead. We were presented with the bread and olives almost as soon as we arrived whilst we were looking over the menu and our ordered drinks arrived very promptly followed by a small pizza(2" diameter) very tasty. We had humous and prawns fried in chilli and butter to start. My husand even ate some of the humous which was a first for him. We followed with lamb ribs and a turkish lamb stew both served with Bulgar wheat and grilled vegetables. All of it was wonderful and there was certainly plenty to eat. The owner also asked us with each course if we were happy with our meal and if we required anything else. We had a bottle of merlot at £12 which was very drinkable. I was full by that time but my husabnd ordered a sweet. Figs with walnuts in syrup. 4 figs arrived and I managed to squeeze donw 2 of them. The owner realised that I might be tempted and had brought 2 sets of cutlery . We followed with turkish coffee and my husband had raki. When we arrived my husband had a beer and I had a sparkiling water. The whole bill came to £54. We have paid twice that and not had a meal anywhere near as good. I am happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone. I just wish it nearer to my home in North London. Will certainly so back again. Even worth driving to Eastbourne for the day to have lunch. I am sure in the evening it would be a lot more livley and I would love to try it out. It was a bit quiet at lunch time but I am sure the rain had something to do with that. It deserves to be full.

Visited June 18, 2010.
Such a great welcome by the owner, sat in the window seat with scatter cushions which added to the 'Turkish' atmosphere and served the mini pizza and bread. The starters were superb, the main course chosen with help from the manager was beautiful and the wine which was Turkish was very good and at a great price. Not hurried, the staff asked if everything was OK, desert were very authentic Turkish but the Coffee takes some getting used to!!

We visited this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary on the back of other Trip- Adviser reviews. It is an unassuming place in an Eastbourne side-street. We started badly -- my wife had forgotten her spectacles and couldn't read the menu! No problem -- the proprietor quickly provided some! This is a genuine Turkish restaurant run by a family. The food was superb, plentiful (we just couldn't manage a desert!) and the meat used was of the highest quality. The proprietor and his daughter offered us really efficient and attentive service and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The bill did not give us a nasty shock.
The Meze is probably not the place to go if you want an exotic environment, flunkied service and need a massive bill to convince yourself that you have had a good time. But if you want reasonably priced genuine Turkish cuisine with quality food and friendly service you won't beat this place for a good evening out.

We had read reviews, but the food was so much better than we imagined. We spent nearly 3 hours having dinner, loved watching the chef prepare everything in front of you - so fresh and flavoursome - i cant wait to be taken away for a weekend in Eastbourne again as we will be eating here again without a doubt.

we went to Meze as #1 rated restaurant in Eastboune. Great restaurant for the carnivore. Delicious spiced meat and starters. Recommend booking as gets very busy at weekends. My wife is vegetarian and she didn't find the food that exciting. But overall I thought is was fantastic as a meat eater. Recommended.

My husband and I went to this place after finding it on trip advisor. If we'd just come across it we would probably not have chosen to go in, it looks more like a small cafe from the outside.
We both love dit and if we are working in teh are again we will return!!

With a welcome as reliable as the food, we have been eating regularly at Meze for more than five years now, as a couple, a family, and with friends, and have yet to catch them on an off-day. This is a place to go when you want an uncomplicated and positive experience, fabulous but straightforward food, and friendly but not obsequious service. The price is uncomplicated too, our last family visit came in at around £18 per head for starters, main course and soft drinks.
The menu offers a great selection of small 'meze' dishes, some sounding quite similar or uninteresting on the page, but all having a unique character, and all being prepared and presented to a consistently high standard. If you can bear to move past the meze, the main courses offer a selection of appetising and authentic dishes, including fabulous Sis kebabs, various dishes cooked in their clay oven, and a selection of Turkish 'pizza'. Don't imagine this is kebab-shop fayre, even the kebabs come off-the-skewer, as chunks of clearly identifiable and perfectly cooked meat, and all the dishes come with a range of accompaniments, including bulgar wheat which is a savoury comfort food beyond compare! As a family we have one member who has to avoid saturated fats, one vegetarian, and one very picky teenager, and we all have a choice of dishes we love, not just one thing which will 'do'.The restaurant itself is not particularly large, but, with windows on two sides, feels open and spacious, and all tables have a view of the cooking area, with the charcoal bed providing all the benefits of an open fire on Winter evenings! The atmosphere is welcoming, we have eaten there on Saturday evenings when all the tables are full, and mid-afternoon Sunday when we were the only diners, and never felt either crowded or conspicous. The sense of welcome is enhanced by the little pre-meal treats which tend to appear on the table, the only downside being the risk of running out of appetite before getting to the main course!
All-in-all, highly recommended!

Simple Turkish restaurant, but what a great place to eat!
The food is just fabulous, fresher then fresh. You see the cook cleaning the vegetables and grilling the meat, so there's no fastfood preheating here!
When you enter they throw a Turkish bun and some complementary pizza's in the oven, which is a nice touch when you get your drinks.

We have eaten here a couple of time recently, and the food and service have been excellent. Prior to your meal you are given little snacks - olives, Turkish bread, little pizzas etc - which are a taste of things to come. The kebabs and stews are delicious and it's nice to watch the chef at work as he sits in his area chopping veg and cooking kebabs. There are two tables in an alcove where the decor is typically Turkish which adds to the whole experience. A great choice for a different night out.
