Definitely worth visiting. Not overcrowded, with typical English atmosphere. We had a lovely stroll and enjoyed a great concert. Definitely recommend

Great pier. Lovely victorian coffee shop half way across. Lovely home made cakes and a crazy indoor golf course to burn off the calories. Well worth a visit when in Eastbourne.

A quieter more serene, Brighton with far lesser seaguls. Even on a Sunday weekend, you will only ever have a couple of hundred people all across the shore. Which isn't too much if you have ever been to Brighton during summer. Cute eating places and walking trails. V well kept. It's called the Sunshine Coast and you will know why when the summer comes.

Typical Victorian pier. Was ravaged a few years ago (2014) but was rebuilt to the same style.
The pier was used by paddle steamers for trips along the coast and also to The Isle of Wight.
The main building had a Camera Obscura at one point in its history. Whether that is still there I am not sure. If it is it does not seem to be open to the public.
There was speedboat trips from the end of the pier, they stopped as the landing stage was deemed to be unsafe. Maybe one day in the future that could be resarected.
The photo is of the beach taken from the pier.

The only real downside was the seagulls who, at the slightest sight of food were a huge nuisance trying to grab what they could from people and trying there best to solicit something from people who had no obvious sign of food. Whilst seagulls are, I believe, a protected bird something needs to be done. They also leave their guano all over the place.
