Things to do this weekend

I spent most of last weekend in the garden, digging, cutting back shrubs, and generally getting grubby and tired - lots of progress made, even though Sunday was a bit of a hit and miss affair due to the rain.

This weekend, I thought we would do something a bit different, so I've been looking around, and have found the following, which may be of interest:

One primarily for the girls - there's a Fashion Show and sale in Weldon Village Hall on Friday evening - doors open at 7.00pm, tickets on the door.

The 8th Welland Valley Beer Festival starts on Friday and goes through till Sunday - 11 pubs, transport from pub to pub in vintage vehicles, and worth noting - some pubs will have the England game showing live.  Further details on the events page here on the bestofcorby site.

Twywell Village has a Country Fair and Festival of Flowers on Saturday and Sunday - there will be lots going on, from BBQ on Saturday afternoon, real ale tent, Children's Corner, teas on the lawn at the Manor House, sheep shearing display, village gardens open and much more.

On Sunday 13th, at Rockingham Castle, there is a display of jousting on horseback, various displays of horsemanship plus a living history encampment showing what life was like in medieaval England.  It should be a very colourful and exciting display.

It's summertime, so of course there will be Open Gardens around and about under the auspices of the National Gardens Scheme.  Open this weekend are Tichmarsh House near Thrapston (Saturday 12-5.00pm), Top Lodge, Violet Lane, Glendon (Sunday 1.30-5.30pm).

Last but not least, on Sunday if you fancy a swim, followed by lunch, you can take advantage of the Holiday Inn Corby-Kettering's offer of a dip in their pool followed by a 2 course carvery lunch and a glass of wine for Mum and Dad, amazing value at just £19.99 for all the family (assumes a family of 4).  Pre-booking is essential though, so call them on 01536 401020.

Have a great weekend - let's hope the sunshine will be back by then!
