Il Palazzo meaning a fine house or palace, this restaurant is strong and secure, very warm and welcoming, with good honest Italian fare to match, never been disappointed here, bustling place, with excellent and cheerful owners and staff, food is wholesome and plentyful, amazing minestrone, superb pollo Milanese and tiramisu to die for. Great wine list, with carefully chosen Italian classics and all at reasonable and drinkable prices. In its third year now, and certainly a mainstay for our family, just can't fault it. Keep up the good work gang, best pizzas in town too!

I was taken here by my sons and their families for my birthday on 22nd Dec. This was my first visit and I was not disappointed. The service was friendly and quick, the food was excellent and served piping hot. I could find no fault at all, a very enjoyable evening. Great Italian atmosphere. Will definitely be going again.

I've been to Il Palazzo many times (most recently last night) and the food is always amazing, the staff are very welcoming and attentive, and it’s one of the most authentic Italian restaurants I’ve been to outside of Italy. Would recommend to anyone, the restaurant in Westcliff is great too

Really impressed by this place - situated in the culinary wilderness that is the top end of Duke street this place is a little gem. Generous portions and good prices. Speedy service even though they had two huge tables in at the same time as us. A family run feel about it and excellent risotto. We will definitely come back for a pre-theatre meal again.

Always very friendly and efficient staff. Good food and quick service especially if you are going to the theatre. Children always welcome and with a separate menu. Have been several times and will certainly go again.

Booked a table over the phone on a spur of the moment thing and was so pleased we did. The staff were very polite and welcoming. For starters I had the meatballs and my bird had bruschetta. We both enjoyed these, the mains were even better. I had the lamb shank special with mash, which was absolutely gorgeous. My bird had linguine pescatore, both generous portions and fantastic flavours. For dessert I had the profiteroles which tasted as good as it looked the way it was presented. 10/10. Can’t wait to visit again. This is the best Italian food I’ve had since I visited Rome. I was very impressed and highly recommend this place.

My daughter and I had a pre theatre meal at this restaurant on Saturday, the service was good but unfortunately the food was very disappointing. I had a pasta and mushroom dish which was very stodgy, the pasta (tagliatelle) was virtually 'welded' together, there was no flavour at all. My daughter had cannelloni, which was also very dry. Both dishes were reminiscent of microwave dishes. Such a shame as the atmosphere and location is very good.

Met friends for a Friday evening meal and a catch up. I had phoned and spoken to the lady in advance and booked the round table which was confirmed. Only to arrive and find it had been given to another group. Disappointed as this had been specially requested. Apologies from staff but nothing more offered. Food satisfactory although service was a little slow. Not sure I will return as I am not confident the same mistake would not recur.

The restaurant is close to the Civic Theatre so is perfect for the pre show food, seated quickly and served courteously so no issues there. The food when it came was excellent, hot and well presented, the only issue we had was that the main course took quite a while so if you are going to the theatre leave yourselves at least 1:45 so you aren't rushing.

Wonderful dishes, pleasant spacious dining area, helpful staff. I had the seafood linguini followed by the best Tiramisu I have ever tasted. My husband had a salmon and vegetables followed by a selection of ice creams. We were visitors to Chelmsford but would like to return to the restaurant again.

That part of Duke Street just outside the city centre and opposite the bus station has a cluster of restaurants of which Il
Palazzo appeared to be the most popular this Tuesday lunchtime. The reason is probably the lunch menu including a number of dishes ranging from pizzas, pastas, frittata (that’s Italian for omelette), salads and chicken, all at the bargain price of £6.95. The spaghetti bolognese I chose was a substantial dish and came quickly enough for me to have a lemon sorbet and meringue dessert before I had to hurry back to a court hearing. A large glass of Montepulciano and a double espresso both went down nicely.

Following a friend’s recommendation we went to Il Palazzo for diner and were not disappointed.
Receiving a warm welcome we were soon placing our order for drinks and food.
Service was prompt and the portions were generous. My wife said «  I can’t eat all that » ,but she did.
The food was delicious, well cooked and well presented.
The choice of typical Italian puddings was enticing and we both succumbed !
A very enjoyable meal!
Highly recommended.

Visited with a couple of friends. I opted for the pizza with chicken and ham. The service was very pleasant and the staff were attentive.
The disappointing thing was the pizza itself. It was tough and the cheese seemed solidified. The best way I can describe it is like pizza gone cold that has been reheated.
I really like pizza and have it regularly. This was not a good one and I would not rush back to this place for a pizza.
