The whole wedding was fantastic due mainly to your wonderful staff. They have been supportive and helpful and the experience has been marvellous, the accomodation second to none. Thank you so very much! Judith - the Waite wedding

first of all i just want to say the hotel staff in the restaurant are lovely and inviting! breakfast and tea were great, i understand how difficult it was on the sunday morning due to it being a busy hotel, people complaining on here really need to think about what more the staff can really do? the staff did everything they physically could and did it all with a smile throughout the stress of irritable guests, lovely leisure facilities and great reception staff. my only grumble is that the house keeping staff were unfriendly and didnt even smile as you walked by!

Decided to stay at the Village hotel as had stayed at the hotel in Dudley. When we arrived there was a wedding party taking place and it was very busy, a bit older that the hotel in dudley but had a very nice pool as all village hotels have, good bar and an excellent breakfast provided.
Bit of a walk to the town centre as the hotel is on the outskirts of Bury close to the edge of the motorway.
We stayed 2 nights as wanting to visit family and woke up one morning to find our car surrounded by a car boot sale! !
Ok but a bit too busy for us and too far to walk to the town centre.

We stayed at this hotel as a base on a getaway with Coach Operator Bowens for 3 nights Friday to Monday. I know this hotel group pretty well as I have family who are leisure club members at a different location where they take advantage of the discounts offered so I have gone along a guest before two or three times. On arrival a member of reception staff came onto the coach and gave out the room numbers and card keys and our luggage was off-loaded from the coach and within a few minutes of getting to the room the suitcases arrived which was lovely. I filled in the guest booking-in sheet and took it down to reception and opened an account for charging drinks etc with no problems at all. Very nice staff. The bedroom itself was fine, we had the same outlook I think as a previous reviewer, overlooking a flat roof at the back of the building. I was ok with this as I didn't fancy being at the front of the hotel overlooking the main entrance stairway, the varandah (where everyone congregated to meet, drink, smoke and chat/shout), nor did I fancy overlooking the car park or the motorway! As I say the bedroom was fine, we found everything we needed, they were a bit stingy with the hospitality tray bits and pieces, but I asked at reception for refills and it was done pronto. The room did seem very dark, the lights were on when we got in there and it was a bright summers day! But we were grateful for the heavy curtains at night to keep out the light so you can't have it all ways. There was a funny smell in the room however, not offensive, just odd, so we sprayed some perfume about a few times to mask it and kept the windows open, don't know what it was? The water in the hotel had a funny taste to it as well, like it was tainted with bleach. I could taste it in the tea I made in bedroom and in the water on the dinner table in the restaurant. My daughter lives in the area and her water doesn't have this taste so perhaps it was the glassware and crockery sanitiser in the dishwasher but it wasn't very pleasant to the palette. Previous reviewers mention that this is a "party" hotel I would agree with that. There was a band playing in the victory pub on the Friday night and it was so loud you could not talk to each other. There was a wedding on as well so it was very busy with a lot of guests around. My sister and niece were in a room a couple of doors down from us on the second floor and she said people shouting in the early hours kept her awake. I have to say I slept well and so did my daughter. We were out and about all day on our coach so we spent no time at all in the hotel during the day. The only issue I have at all really is with the restaurant and the food. We were asked to turn up at 7pm for dinner and once the staff established we were with the "coach party", the service became poor, the menu offering was poor and the food should have been much, much better. Our coach driver complained and was told that there would be improvement the following evening. It was not much of an improvement. We felt like second class citizens and an inconvenience because we were with the "coach party". Yes some of the party were elderly (I'm not, nor are my family) but you should not be blase enough to think that just because we turn up on a coach as part of a package holiday weekend, and are perhaps older than your normal (or desired clientelle), we should be then subject to sub-standard food and poor service because that is disgraceful. If you feel like that you should not be accepting coach parties or is it just a case of easy money? We had the same flavour soup two nights running, same starter of quiche on the salad bar two nights running, left over cold salmon served two nights running which had been a main course the first night, half cooked veg, not properly thawed out puddings, coffee/tea machine out of order (looks like a previous reviewer commented on that also) and worst of all dirty crockery and cutlery not cleared from our tables between courses. I noticed that all the waiting staff disappeared once we were all seated and far more attention was given to "regular" guests who had the "proper" menu. No offer of a wine waiter, we had to get our own drinks from the bar. No asking have you got everything you need? I could suggest you might offer the "regular menu" to choose from as an alternative and let people pay the extra if they want too. I would have gone for that option. We even overheard some of the wedding guests saying they were not very happy with the food they were served at the wedding (Chicken Chasseur, mashed potato and mixed veg, which is what we had!) You might just bear in mind even Silver Surfers can put reviews on Trip Advisor! And a final few words of advice to Village Hotels Management: If you are looking to project a hip and trendy image don't take bookings from coach parties and if you do want our business don't give the coach parties a sub-standard service. I shouldn't think Bowens would be very pleased to learn how their coach party customers (and driver) had been treated this weekend once the driver gives his report. I have stayed in all kinds of hotels in this country from basic 2 star up to 5 star luxury but I have never been made to feel any less valued as a customer no matter how I arrived or what type of break I was on. The rest of our weekend was great out and about in Bury, Manchester, Liverpool and Chester. Exhausting but fab.

I stayed here for several weeks on business and can thoroughly recommend it for any trip you may be planning. The rooms are done out beautifully, the food is excellent and the staff very helpful. In the bar there are various activities each night or it is close enough to Bury so that local nightlife or a change of restaurant can be sampled. Briliiant leisure facilities and beauty therapies complete a perfect venue

Great hotel with a great atmosphere. The health club has many different instructers that do all types of classes. However there are not many classes for children.

I went along to an ABBA tribute night with a few friends recently and I have to say I was really impressed. There was a lovely three course meal, entertainment and a DJ for a very reasonable price and we all had a great evening. Will definitely be coming back soon!

Just been along to try the carvery for first time and really enjoyed it. We brought my mother in law for a Sunday afternoon treat and the food was really delicious with a great selection, well presented and well replenished. Sometimes buffet style meals can be a little along the lines of 'pile it high, sell it cheap' but this most definitely wasn't that. Really great value for money, can't wait to take the children back, my ten year old will be beside himself witness excitement at the choice of desserts!

The Village Hotel Bury - Great night out! My hen party (aged 56) was a great sucess. We arrived Sat am had a wonderful pamper session then into the gym and pool area for swmming sauna and a lazy around the pool. Finsihed off at the bar at 5.00 pm then up to our lovely rooms back down for dinner at 7.30 which was fantastic (and hot) then a disco and entertainment - would recommend and we shall re-book for Xmas - give it a go on their special rates including pamper session
