It's what many men dread - and some women find themselves in the situation too.... you've started to notice your hair thinning out. There's a telltale increase in the amount of scalp you can see through your hair.
The first thing is not to panic. A Cut Above has given us some great advice on how to make your thinning hair less obvious - without heading down the Donald Trump toupee route!
Firstly, you need to come to terms with it. It's unlikely once the thinning has started that you'll ever go back, so getting used to the idea is a good start.
Some lifestyle changes can help slow the hair loss down. A major one is to make sure you're eating healthily and give up smoking. That will only have a good effect on you and your hair follicles.
Try not to wear very close fitting hats as this actually restricts breathability for your scalp and will limit wear & tear on your hair.
If you don't already, start blowdrying your hair. It helps lift the hair from your scalp, giving the illusion of greater fullness and volume.
Rethink your products. If you're usually a fan of weighty products like gels or wax, then now's the time to reassess. They can create added weight on your hair, pulling it down and making the hair loss more obvious. Ask one of the stylists at the salon for their advice on which products might be better for your needs.
Likewise your existing hairstyle may not be doing you any favours. Head into the salon for some restyle advice. They might be able to work some magic so it all becomes less obvious - and send you on your way with products that help too.
