This was my second visit to the Georgian House Hotel near Bolton and my room this time was larger than my first visit. The rooms have been excellent and, whilst the bathroom fittings are looking dated, they are maintained and scrupulously clean. An earlier reviewer complained about the water pressure in the shower and I can confirm that it is not exactly a raging torrent but then neither is it an inadequate trickle either. I don't spend all my stay in the hotel shower so I can't get too upset by this! The reception staff are delightful and the breakfast staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. There is a large bar area with TVs but I didn't get to use the pool so I couldn't comment. Parking is easy and there are plenty of spaces. An excellent experience, again, for a seasoned traveller.

Stayed here for one night. Room was poor with dead flies on the window ledge, and the bathroom in urgent need of update.
Didn't use the leisure facilities but they look ok.
Breakfast was very nice, although they seemed very understaffed, and you struggled to get someone's attention to get a cup of coffee.

stayed here for weekend friday night into manchester to show at bridgewater hall the hotel staff were helpful and pleasant but the rooms were tired and dated the food in the restaurant was excellent for two of our party but was cold for the other two this was rectified to our satisfaction things do go wrong but it is the way it is dealt with that makes the difference would we go back yes.
we understand that the hotel has recently been taken over and would expect the hotel to raise the standards in the bedrooms to what you would expect from the accor group

We only stayed one night and as were were meeting friends we did not eat any meals. The pool is not very large but overall very clean and pleasant, good parking, quiet even though there were 2 weddings. We were given a room on the top floor in the loft area. But it was big enough, clean and quiet. Good TV and tea, coffee etc. About 1 mile from the Reebok and very close to the motorway. Downside drinks pricey, bar area a bit bleak and we did not find a lounge area but there were 2 parties so maybe the lounge was somewhere.

Booked this place, primarily, as it had been well received on trip advisor and my other half enjoys a swim and sauna. I found the room to be fine for my needs ie get a good sleep and a shower etc but a little disappointed we only got one set of towels. Also could not get the wifi to work anywhere in the hotel. Maybe if I asked these things would have been sorted so I will take some of the blame.
The pool area, gym and sauna were all very accessible the times we used them and never too busy.
Drink is expensive so don't plan to have a great night at the bar unless you have more money than sense, although to be fair I suspect this is the norm for hotels.
The breakfast buffet is good too, I normally don't eat much in the morning but managed to have a lovely cooked breakfast each morning.
The staff in all areas were very welcoming and attentive and I am sure they would have sorted my little niggles if I bothered to mention them.
I would have no problems recommending this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Stayed herewith my husband (who was on business) and our 6 & 4 year old boys. We stayed in a ground floor family room. My husband checked in on a Monday, with myself and the children arriving on the Friday and all checking out the following Tuesday.

Our room was very spacious with 2 double beds and a sofa bed. The bathroom was also a good size. The bed was huge and very comfy. The maids did a fantastic job each day as my boys made a fair bit of mess.

The food was delicious. We had room service 1 night and ate in the lounge another night. Portions where large and although a bit pricey not more than I would expect. Breakfast was nice and well staffed, though I was surprised there was no black pudding, what with being in lancashire.

My husband says the gym is good and I found the pool area very nice. The guy on duty on the day we went swimming was brilliant as our youngest broke a golden rule and ran, ending up slipping and hurting his head.

There was only 2 minor downsides, 1 was each day we returned our key card didn't seem to work so had to head back to reception to get it fixed. 2 was on the Saturday our next door neighbors where a group of young guys who rolled in rather loudly at 2.15, though it was the nights the clocks went back so felt like 3.15. Not the best move putting a group of lads in a 'family' room.

Overall a brilliant stay

stayed here for a night dinner bed and breakfast via a red letter voucher. on the whole a nice stay, room clean, not very spacious but fine, some parts of hotel need a bit of an upgrade to décor etc, slightly dated. staff seem very attentive, if a little slow at dinner, the dinner room is quite sparse and not very restaurant like, but the food was really lovely. Again good choice at breakfast but very slow staff, especially with the tea and coffee. swimming pool area is very nice too.

This is a good business hotel to stay in if you are traveling in the NW. Clean and well kept with a good breakfast buffet.

Don't be fooled by the "Georgian" title most of the accommodation is in modern, lodge style blocks. A conference venue not a wedding venue really.

Good-
Excellent value for money (£50 each for one night including an evening meal, breakfast and full access to the gym and spa facilities).
Spacious and modern room with a bath/shower and television.
The food in the restaurant was lovely and the choice at breakfast was great!
All of the staff were all lovely and polite.

Bad-
The Jacuzzi wasn't working properly and would only switch on in small intervals.
The door of the sauna in the female changing rooms wouldn't close properly so all the heat was being let out which was a shame.
When you book it says in the description that you get a 3 course d'hote dinner but doesn't explain that the choices are very limited. The menu you choose from only includes two different starters, two mains and two desserts. We didn't like either of the mains (tuna steak and chicken diane) so the other option was to choose a meal from the main menu up to the value of £22.00 each. If you go over £22.00 you will pay the extra before you leave at checkout. We didn't mind doing this but if you were looking forward to a 3 course meal then you would be quite disappointed. For our £22.00 each, we ended up getting a starter and main each. Both courses were lovely and the portions were huge! The only recommendation we have would be to add a couple of extra choices to the menu for guest who are staying under a package deal at the hotel.

Apart from this, we can't complain because for the £50.00 each it is excellent value for money! If we ever fancy a little break away again, we will definitely consider coming back here!

Stayed now twice at this hotel and very satisfied. The staff are brilliant; very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are of good size and extremely clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and so had a good nights sleep after a long drive and a day at work.
First night i dined out, but had the breakfast which was very good with a selection of basically everything available. I'm staying at the hotel for the second time in two weeks whilst I write this review, and this time the room is enormous and extremely clean and comfortable, with the staff again very friendly and helpful.
Will definitely be coming back when next in the area.

Stayed here in early October due to a book out from De Vere Whites down the road.
A basic hotel with decent amenities although does look to offer value with inclusions such as complimentary wifi and use of leisure facilities. on-site.
Evening meal was surprisingly good considering the 3* rating of the hotel. Staff were pleasant although sometimes missing in action from the reception area and restaurant. Breakfast did not reach the same standards as the evening meal in terms of quality or choice.

Stayed here for a weekend in October. The hotel is well located for most Lancashire towns also Blackpool, Manchester and Liverpool.

Close to the Reebok Stadium with shopping outlets, restaurants and fuel.

The hotel is a good standard with plenty of parking but a little remote. There are 2 real ale pubs within 10 minutes walking distance both do food.

The hotel rooms are well appionted with tea making facilities and tv although our tv had a poor picture quality.

If you get a rear view room you get to look over Rivington Pike aerial and the pennines it sits on assuming your window isn't covered in condensation like ours!

The breakfast buffet is very nice but the breakfast room was absolutely baking hot and airless. On both mornings the fruit juice jugs were empty where they had not been kept topped up. Amazingly the toaster actually toasts the bread turning it completly from white to golden toast.

Like any hotel the bar prices are steep and there is no real ale so better to do your drinking in the local pubs.

Would consider going back as it is located close to where relatives live.

We had been booked at the Mercure Last Drop, however on Arrival they had overbooked themselves and after a bit of negotiation we were relocated to here. Whilst not the swankiest rooms in the world we had a great stay. Extra special praise should go the lady (duty manager?) on duty that night who provided truly exceptional customer service. Nothing was too much trouble as she sorted out our party of 8, gave us a private room to eat in, and even decorated it herself for us. She totally rescued the day! The food was much better than expected, and beds comfortable.
It was Saturday 12th October we stayed - management please take note - you have a star employee here!

Stayed here for 3 nights in September for a short break. This could be a good hotel but it was seriously let down by the staff. Many of the people we came into contact with (when you could find them) either lacked knowledge of the hotel or were not trained for hotel work. The quality of food in the restaurant saved our stay.

The problems started with reception. There is never anyone at the desk and there is no contact bell. The only option is to shout 'hello' and someone might appear from round the back. We were told we had a view of the hills but when we got to the room it had a view of a roof. (staff knowledge lacking here). They did swap us to another room straight away. In that room the safe was broken and we had to get someone to fix it. Reception staff did not give us ANY information, such as directions to the room or breakfast times etc

The room itself was good but the safe did not work and we found blood spots on the bathroom floor and room carpet. TV channels were not as listed on the screen. There was no info in the room about leisure centre arrangements.

We were not told that we had to take the room towels to the pool (we had to ask). We were promised extra towels but they never turned up.

The leisure centre reception was abysmal. There are some 50 lockers which need a padlock (free from reception) to secure them. When we asked for a lock we were told "they are all out". There was about 6 people in the pool! When we said what do we do the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders in a disinterested manner! After we stared at her for a while she offered a key for a miniature valuables locker. In addition' there was no toilet paper in one of the female toilets, water cooler did not work. Jacuzzi broken and apparently has been for some time. The pool itself was very good.

Staff training was an issue in the restaurant too. We had an excellent meal, so good that we decided to eat there again (via room service this time) on another night. Restaurant service was poor. There were 3 couples in a restaurant that could seat perhaps 100 or more people. We ordered wine and water. The waiter rushed by and plonked the wine on the table unceremoniously, said something like "your wine" and headed off. No offer to open it, check if it was the right one etc. OK it has a screw top, but it would be nice to have a bit of ceremony with the service. We had to call the waiter back then to ask for water glasses. The food however was excellent - my compliments to the chef. At breakfast, a special mention for excellent service to Lydia who was very attentive and friendly.

Don't expect to get back into your room if you go out! On the second day and third day the keycards stopped working. Reception just shrugged and said "they keep doing that". Perhaps the problem should be fixed?

I ordered coffee in the bar, the menu said served with handmade shortbread. We didn't get the biscuit. When I asked we were told that they hadn't had any for a while but the waitress said "but I've brought some in myself. She returned with chocolate digestives. A special mention here for Irene in the bar but what sort of management leaves the bar staff to provide things that the hotel should be doing.

It is a shame because the hotel has all the facilities but it needs the staff to be more knowledgeable and better trained. It was a bit reminiscent of Fawlty Towers unfortunately. Would I return, probably not.

Recently spent 1 night here over a weekend. We were very impressed with this hotel, the staff were friendly and efficient and the public areas were nicely presented.

We had a room on the second floor, and found it to be spacious, well appointed and spotlessly clean.

A special mention should go to the restaurant, we ate an evening meal and highly impressed with the quality of the food and brilliant service. The breakfast was also good, with a good selection available on the buffet.

We look forward to staying here again, hopefully very soon

This clean, well run hotel proved to be a good choice for an overnight stay. The big plus point was the fact that all staff that we came into contact with, whether via e-mail or in person were friendly, welcoming, helpful, polite and considerate. Our room was fine, as was the standard of breakfast. The only disappointment, as in so many hotels, was the postage stamp sized duvets. It is not clear how a large person is expected to enjoy a comfortable nights sleep under one of these items. Overall though - many thanks to the people who work here, a good team.

Check in was quick, friendly and efficient, restaurant was busy but service was quick and tables were quickly cleared.
Good choice of breakfast dishes, starters and hot food.
Bedroom and bathroom were clean and the room temperature was comfortable.
The area to the rear of the hotel can be noisy if there is a function on, e.g. wedding.

I stayed here for a friends wedding and thought it was lovely, the room was clean and spacious and nicely decorated, enjoyed a nice coffee in the morning a nice touch in the room.
Breakfast in the morning was delicious, fresh hot food was constantly being brought through.
My only slight grumble was the price of drinks in the bars during the evening £21 for a bottle of wine!

We stayed here as a family of 4 in July. We booked it because it was loads cheaper than any other hotel in the area, including perceived budget brands such as premier inn and travelodge.

All in all, it was pleasent enough. It met my expectations in terms of cleanliness, room facilities etc. Staff were friendly, food was ok, nothing positive or negative to say about the food really. It has a nice health club attached, if that's your thing I would recommend it, especially the pool which was decent. Location wise, it's a stone throw away from the reebok stadium in Bolton, and it is an ideal location to stay if you are exploring the north west.

Overall, it was good, I have nothing negative to say about the place, it is what I would expect of a hotel of this nature, however, for the price I paid, it was exceptional value for money.

Chose this hotel for a three-night midweek break because it is both dog friendly and doesn't charge a ridiculous amount to accommodate them. The hotel actually plays host to guide dog training.

Public areas were modern, nicely furnished and we were able to take the pooch into the bar when no-one was eating (outside terrace all the time). We had a spacious family room (one king size bed, two singles side-by-side) on the ground floor, handily next to the car park. The leisure suite - pool and fitness rooms - was well equipped and spotless. My cousin and daughter swam twice a day.

We booked room only but paid in advance for 2-course dinners on the first evening and were able to choose from a daily set menu or have an allowance against the main menu. There was a separate, varied children's menu from which our nine-year-old had her favourite steak, chips and peas. This and my cousin's burger and fries were well liked but the lamb in my casserole was tough and the rosemary simply a fresh sprig on top rather than cooked in the sauce. It was served with two small, soft skinned baked potatoes but no contrasting veg to relieve the brown colour and texture.

Restaurant service was poor beyond belief - there was only one other table taken in the dining room and about a dozen people eating in the bar. Main courses took a while to come but when we'd waited over 30 minutes for two desserts - a cheese plate to share and an ice cream for the youngster - we decided not to bother. The server explained the delays on 'a lot of room service'. As we passed reception we were asked if we had enjoyed the meal and when we explained the missing desserts, ice cream was whisked to our room without problem.

Other than this, service was friendly and efficient and we very much enjoyed using the Mercure as a base.
