Just got back from a spar night. We were upgraded to a family room so ended up with 2 King sized bed,the room was ok just a few issues, bathroom door handle was loose and there was a draft through the closed window. The spar treatments were amazing and our evening meal was lovely. The breakfast was ok but there were things missing,we did ask for poched eggs which were brought to our table. You couldn't fault the staff and nothing was too much trouble

We had a wonderful one night stay. We were put in room 51 in the courtyard which was beautiful.. 30 second walk to the spa and restaurant. The spa itself is basic but has everything you need and the staff were very helpful and friendly, you can use the spa facilities from check in at 3 to check out at 11. We had a treatment each which were pretty pricy but were lovely as a treat and the girls were really nice. We didn’t eat in the restaurant as we didn’t book but the bar serves food just a limited menu. The breakfast was gorgeous plenty of options and everything was nice and fresh. Not one complaint here. I don’t know where the negative reviews come from. We will definitely return. Thankyou for a lovely stay!

What a stay, fantastic deal through spa seekers. We got a nights stay, 2 course evening meal. A treatment each and use of the spa. All for under £215.00.
Lovely night away with my husband, will definitely book it again.

The bedrooms were very clean and roomy. It’s a very old building so don’t expect all modern coms.

The food in the restaurant was really nice, staff couldn’t do enough for you.

Spa staff was outstanding, the service was the best I’ve ever had. From booking my trip till we left the hotel,
Shout out to the gentleman Scott he made our experience outstanding.
We will definitely return to this hotel.
Thanks for our relaxing break.

We hosted a charity Burns Night event at the Dunkenhalgh and cannot thank the team enough. From its initial concept, Athena was fantastic, replying to any queries promptly and allaying any worries we had.

Fergus and Steven ensured everything went smoothly so we could sit back and enjoy the night. Fergus went the extra mile and organised the piping in of the haggis and donned his kilt for the evening. The kitchen even added a nice touch to our desserts.

We would recommend the Dunkenhalgh for any event you are considering as the management team are fantastic! Thank you for all your help!

I booked the dunkenhalgh for my mums birthday for a one night spa break. We upgraded to the executive suite and added early check-in and late checkout. Friendly staff on welcome.

We went to our room which was in the back part of the hotel. Very tidy. Our room was lovely however we noticed the shower was still dirty where hair had been overlooked by some previous guest wiping it high up in the tiles. I rang reception and they offered to change our room. I said no need if at 2pm someone comes to clean the shower. At exactly 2pm the cleaner came and she was extremely apologetic and ended up having a nice chat. The room was clean and tidy apart from that. Only other fault of the rooms where the pillows or should I call them lumps of cement. They were so hard my recommendation would be high quality pillows for executive guests as this interrupted my sleep trying to get a boulder comfortable hahaha

The staff gave us complementary drinks for the bathroom mishap and was very considerate for my mums birthday. They decorated our room whilst at the spa and treated her to balloons and a cocktail at dinner.

The spa facility was clean and tidy. Pool was a good temp and staff were very helpful and friendly. There were a couple of tiles that had damage in the blue room but nothing to cry about like some reviews.

The spa treatments were good too. Kim and Chelsea was very good at explaining the products and recommendations for routines

Dinner and breakfast had good selection. We ate late in the evening so one dish had sold out but that’s expected if you eat later on. Was very tasty and came out at a good time. Breakfast had proper branded items. So no cheaper supplements which iv had in other hotel chains.

Overall we have had a lovely stay and will be visiting again. A trip is what you make of it and don’t always believe the bad reviews some people have too much time on their hands. Yes there was an issue which was sorted and the pillows are a preference

Came as a birthday treat for my husband. I told the staff it was my husbands birthday and purchased balloons for the room. This was dealt with very discreetly and was a lovely surprise when entering the room. Staff also went the extra mile with extra birthday wishes in the room and at the meal.
Thank you for making our stay special.
The hotel is an Old building, hiccups with the room key kept voiding. However, the rooms are decorated well, clean and tidy. The food was also good at the evening meal and breakfast.

Spa treatments and hotel services it wasn’t so bad but restaurant inside the hotel .. I hope soon it’s gonna be closed down!! Service for dinner time was so slowly and unfortunately not organised at all ! Waiting for dinner 55 min and still if my partner wouldn’t go and asked them what’s going on we would not get our food for sure ! Never again stay away as far as you can ..

We booked this hotel because we wanted to have a belated Golden Wedding meal celebration with family in the area. We explained when booking that it was belated. We received a very warm welcome from reception who noted our special celebration.

Room - We had been upgraded to an executive room which had been specially decorated to celebrate our anniversary (Won't say how as don't want to spoil it for anyone else). We had also been given some freebies. The room was spacious and quiet and we couldn't hear the loud music playing from one of the function rooms. There was only one downside in that it was quite a walk from the bars and restaurant and part of the way was outside. Although it was under cover it was open on one side. As it was a stormy and cold weekend it meant you had to wear a jacket/coat as it was a bit wet.

There is a lovely ambience in the bar and restaurant. The very friendly staff are keen to please. All of the family expressed how much they had enjoyed the food and the relaxed atmosphere. We did have an issue with one meal not having arrived. When mentioned to the restaurant manager it was sorted out very quickly.

We had a wonderful short break here and would like to thank all the staff for making it such a special occasion.

We came to Mercure Dunkenhalgh for a Winter Warmer Spa. Arrived at 9.15am and spent a good 4hrs using the facilities. All the staff were friendly and attentive. Couldnt complain about anything really, Spa treatments were great, afternoon tea was lovely.

Some people note the pool area is a bit dated, I would agree to some aspects but for what we paid we couldnt make any faults.

No water in room and nowhere to get any water in hotel apart from the bathroom tap or buy it when you order food in restaurant.

Corridors are freezing cold.

Simple repairs not done in room - stain on chair, stained/marked nets, broken tile in bathroom.

Poor quality toilet paper.

A lot of banging at night - hard to get to sleep.

Signage in hotel is confusing - got lost several times.

To get to my room, I had to go through function room where there was a function going on. After swimming, with wet hair, at night, my only option was to go outside, walk around the building and back in.

QR code in room to order room service, but the menu was out of date!
Restaurant staff informedof of current choices available? Also, £5.50 charge for room service.

Bed was comfortable and gym was good. Swimming pool was lovely but changing rooms need refurbishment.

Staff in hotel were very friendly and helpful.

Average / below average, especially for the price. The food was okay, but very pricey for the quality - same with the drinks. The spa area is nice and appears clean, but limited seating. The rooms were full of dust and had water damage and mould in the bathroom - not an issue for a night but for the price, there shouldn’t be this problem. Staff were nice and the massage therapists explained the services well.

Pros: free parking, room service, large rooms, friendly staff, pretty building, warm pool.

Personally wouldn’t go back, but we don’t regret our experience.

The grounds are stunning, the rooms were lovely and the beds were really comfy. The food was stunning! And the food and drink is really reasonably priced too. The spa was amazing, multiple steam rooms, a massive sauna and a pool with jacuzzi. The service was also brilliant, everyone was so friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back here again.

Me and my friend recently went on a spa day at Dunkenhalgh Hotel and spa, we were greeted by Sam at reception who was an absolute joy and gave a wonderful greeting and explanation of the amazing day we were about to embark on. The facilities on site are excellent with a great thermal suit with lots of different rooms and options, alongside a good sized pool and jacuzzi. The hot stone massage and facial given by Kayleigh was one of the best of my life, she found and relieved all my knots and pains and I left the treatment room floating on air with the freshest face ever.
when we went into the bar area for our afternoon tea both Anna and Hollie looked after us and were so kind and accommodating even with my friends dietary requirements and couldn't not be more accommodating. We had a fantastic day and will be retuning soon, a fantastic experience and calming location, thanks to the whole team for making our day so special.

Stayed for a night on 6th January. Very friendly and efficient reception staff made for an easy check in . Stayed in a suite that had everything you would need/want in a night away.

Bed was without a doubt the most comfortable I've slept in.

Leisure facilities were top notch .

All staff were attentive and professional.

Would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

The afternoon tea wasn't the best food was bland and the lack of hot tub was disappointing the fact there is no description of what the different rooms are for in the thermal suite aswell rooms were clean though

We booked a family room last minute as we were left stranded in the area on our way from one hotel to another. We actually then close to delay the next stage of our trip and extend our stay here as we were made to feel so welcome and wanted to make the most of our oportunity here. We mainly dealt with Jess on reception, she checked us in and then I was glad to see it was her when we went to extend the booking. She was very attentive and made a fuss of our little boy. She even asked for our keycards to extend those so we didn't get locked out of our room when we were originally meant to leave. I was concerned when reading reviews and yes the hotel is tired in places but it is a beautiful historic building and the staff are so helpful. Breakfast could use improving. The quality of the food is not worth the cost so we chose to go out for breakfast on our remaining days.

The Duncanhalgh is a very nice, clean, comfortable hotel with good food nicely presented. There didn't seem to be a lot of staff on duty but they did extremely well considering the place was very busy. Paul in particular did a lot of multitasking making sure we were all enjoying ourselves. We were well looked after except on Christmas night. On our programme it was billed as a Gala Dinner with a singer. Unfortunately in the dining room our group was relegated to a small, very cold annexe with uncovered marble tables . We were very cold. The singer was positioned at the door of the main dining room and we could hardly hear her. A bit disappointing. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay.
