The claret and blues pulled off a stunning 3-0 victory against German side Freiburg in last night’s final in Istanbul to claim their first trophy in 30 years - and their first in Europe since 1982.

While thousands of Villa fans descended on the Turkish capital, many more packed into venues back in Birmingham - including the Utilita Arena and Villa Park’s Warehouse.

The victory also brought global attention to Villa and the city of Birmingham, with millions of football fans watching around the world.

Raj Kandola, deputy CEO of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “Aston Villa’s Europa League success is a proud moment for Birmingham and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the city on the international stage.

“Achievements like this provide a real boost to the local economy, while also strengthening Birmingham’s profile as a vibrant, ambitious and globally connected city.

“The positive exposure generated across Europe will help shine a spotlight on Birmingham.

“We congratulate everyone at Aston Villa on this outstanding and historic achievement.”

Villa are set to mark the Europa League win with an open top bus victory parade this afternoon.

The club says the parade will begin on Branston Street in the Jewellery Quarter at approximately 4.30pm and cover a route of approximately 4.5km, taking in Sand Pits, Broad Street and Centenary Square.

The parade is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes.
