World Book Night returns for 2022 on Saturday 23rd April.

This fantastic event brings story tellers of all backgrounds together for one reason – to inspire people to read more!

Organisations and individuals will be holding events up and down the country to celebrate the difference that reading makes to our lives, from book themed parties at home to books swaps in offices. Organisations can volunteer to hand out books from the World Book Night list to people who don’t read for pleasure or own books.

Regardless of whether you’re a regular, avid reader, or someone who is slightly less confident about their reading ability, there’s something for everyone.

World Book Night takes place at The British Library in London, but if you can’t get there in person, don’t panic, you can access talks online and the World Book Night Toolkit provides you with  lots of ideas on how to celebrate at home or online.

This year 84,0000 books from the World Book Night list will be gifted – given away in various settings across the country, including: care homes, youth centres, colleges, public libraries, prisons, and mental health groups.

Reading for pleasure should be accessible for everyone and this year World Book Night are bringing together a group of leading writers to share their love of reading to help spark our own.

Authors from this year’s list will be talking about their books, why they tell the stories they do and revealing the stories that have shaped their own lives.

If you’re less confident about reading, then don’t despair – World Book Night is just as relevant to you as anyone else, and you can still be part of it!

For the first time ever, The Reading Agency have introduced 8 new Quick Reads – short stories by best selling authors written for new and less confident readers.

You can also take part in the Reading Hour between 7pm and 8pm on the 23rd of April. It’s a time dedicated just for you and your book. You can read alone, aloud to others, or even call a friend to share book recommendations. You can share how you’re taking part on social media by using #ReadingHour

Reading for pleasure is so important, so why not take part in this year’s World Book Night – we will be!

You can find out more information about the event itself and how to get involved here!
