For the keen cyclists amongst you there’s a brilliant route planned by Sky Ride. This free 8 mile ride takes in some of the best views of the Furness Countryside, even stopping for a cheeky beverage in one or two pubs along the way!

The Beggars Theatre continues to offer a range of fantastic workshops.  This weekend’s offering explores the world of theatre and dance. These events are always popular so make sure you book first, you won’t want to miss out!

Fell Foot Park hosts the All England Stone Skimming Championships, which is always well supported. There is also a Bat watch evening taking place at the park on the 27th August which sounds great too.

Ford Park in Ulverston are holding an Alternative Fair on Sat 22nd August which will be a very busy family themed event and is well worth attending.

Fri 21st August – Summer Theatre/Dance Workshops at The Beggars Theatre Millom.

Explore the world of dance at The Beggars Theatre. The workshop runs from 10am-12pm infants and juniors welcome!

Fri 21st August – Sky Ride Wildlife and Wilderness -  8 miler  (2pm-4pm)

This steady ride of just under 9 miles on quiet roads, climbs gently out of Ulverston, past Swarthmoor Hall and into the Funess countryside, before descending into Great Urswick, taking in the view of Urswick Tarn (and maybe stopping for a drink at one of the two pubs in the village) The ride then continues onto Scales then Birkrigg Common.

The ride starts at Ulverston Leisure Centre, Priory Road

Sat 22nd August –11am -5pm Alternative Fair at The Coach House Ford Park

The Alternative Fair which takes place in Ford Park, Ulverston is a family event with stalls and activities for children and adults featuring art and crafts, crystals, dowsing, colour therapy, holistic books, tombola, Cumbrian authors and cartoonist, gifts, bran tubs and more.

Sat 22nd August 11am – 4pm The All England Stone Skimming Championships at Fell Foot park

Fell Foot Park is the setting for The All England Stone Skimming Championships

Entry costs £3 for adults, £1 for a child and £10 for a team of up to four people.

Competitors get three stones, from a selection provided by the organisers, and skims must stay within lanes laid out in the water.

Car parking charges apply.


Tues 25th August – Grizedale Sculpture Care Day 9.30am – 3.30pm

Come along and help maintain Grizedale’s many wonderful sculptures.

Meet up with like -minded folk and spend some time getting to know your forest better!

There's free parking for this event, please be advised that booking is essential.

Wed 26th August – Fri 28th August - Family Wild Camping at Fell Foot

Join us for some family camping fun at Fell Foot on the shores of Lake Windermere. This is a rare opportunity to pitch your tent in a beautiful spot not currently accessible to visitors.

Thurs 27th August -  Animal Handling Workshop at The Dock Museum

Back by popular demand this workshop makes a welcome return to The Dock Museum.

As always, these popular sessions will have a wide variety of small animals available for you to look at, stroke and hold and you will learn all about them from the experts at Wetherigg's Animal Rescue.

There will be 7 half-hour sessions run throughout the day commencing at 10:30am.

Adult tickets and Child tickets are £2 each.

Children under 2 are free! (Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult)

Thurs 27th August- Holker Hall Open Gardens for NGS

A wonderful opportunity to wander round the magnificent gardens at Holker Hall. Discover unusually large rhododendrons, magnolias and azaleas, and the National Collection of Styracaceae. You can also discover their latest garden feature - The Pagan Grove, designed by Kim Wilkie.

Admission is £8.00, children free.
