The Coronation Hall presents Friday Night Live, where four of the funniest comedians in the country will provide an evening full of laughter (book early to avoid disappointment, these nights sell out fast!)

The Forum have some mirth filled events planned too. The World famous hypnotist Andrew Newton brings his hilarious stage show to Barrow on Friday (you really don’t want to miss this!) And everyone’s favourite Irish comic – the irrepressible Ed Byrne – brings his new show ‘Outside looking In’ to town over the weekend too!

As well as comedy nights, there are a wide range of other events taking place too, from a beer festival to a vintage fair complete with pop up tearoom. There’s something for all tastes.

So if you need cheering up; or just want to escape from the rugby, Barrow and Furness is the place to be this weekend.

2nd October – Silverscreen at The Forum: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Forum 28 continues its film screenings with The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

As the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has only a single remaining vacancy - posing a rooming predicament for two fresh arrivals - Sonny pursues his expansionist dream of opening a second hotel.

2nd October – Friday Night Live at The Coronation Hall Ulverston

The Coronation Hall presents Friday Night Live on the 2nd October. Featuring four of the funniest comics on the UK circuit: Martin Mor, Steve Royle, Booby Mair and special guest - Jared Christmas!

These guys have appeared on Pheonix nights, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, 8 out of 10 Cats and Russell Howard's Good News, so you're in for a real treat!

Andrew Newton - The world famous hypnotist returns to the Forum on the 2nd October with another hilarious show. Newton has an international reputation as an awesome showman.

2nd October – Whisky Tasting Evening with Paul Quinn

The Forum is holding a whisky tasting evening from 7.30pm on Friday 2nd October. Enthusiasts and novices alike can explore and taste five different styles of whiskeys, Scottish single malt, whiskies from around the world and a blended Scotch.

You will learn about the process involved in creating such delights and getting tips as we go along on how to truly enjoy and fully taste your whiskey.

2nd October – Colin Cloud – Forensic Mind Reader

Colin Cloud is a forensic scientist who mixes mind magic and brain science with his love of Arthur Conan Doyle’s works, resulting in him being described as the closest thing around to the real life Sherlock Holmes.

He left Jonathan Ross speechless, Ant and Dec agog with disbelief and mind reader and spoon-bender Uri Geller described him as one of the ‘greatest thought readers of all time’. He has performed for professional sceptics like Penn and Teller and wowed the hard-to-please Simon Cowell.

Now he comes to the Beggars Theatre Millom for an evening you'll never forget!

2nd – 4th October – We Will Overcome at The Hope & Anchor Ulverston

The Hope and Anchor are holding 3 days of entertainment this weekend.

Not only are they holding 3 days of live music, they are also hosting their first ever beer festival. We Will Overcome is a National anti - austerity campaign devised by musicians and music promoters. For a wonderful weekend of ale and music – get down to The Hope!

3rd October – The Games We Played

The Dock Museum hosts a wonderful trip down memory lane with their exhibition - The Games We Played.

This is a truly nostalgic exhibition exploring some of the most popular, as well as a number of lesser known, board and card games form the 1920s through to the 1970s.

As well exploring Ancient games, visitors can reminisce of the games of their youth and even design their own games too.

4th October – Silver Sunday

Silver Sunday is a special day to celebrate older people and with almost 400 different events taking place across the country, thousands of people are able to get out of their homes, attend a special event and gain the opportunity to make new friends and connections. 

This is a free event, starting at 11am on the 4th October at The Forum.

4th October – Vintage@The Coro

The Vintage Village Hall are holding another classic Vintage Fair at The Coro on Sunday 4th October.

This is a classic VVH fair at The Coro, lots of Stalls (25 quality pitches with equally beautiful stallholders), the Tea-room (stunning home - made cakes, bigger than your head and served by the legendary VVH tea-ladies), and music - Oh yes there will be music! Best frocks and perhaps a chance to start shopping for that dreaded (and loved) 'c' word.
