Last month Thebestofbarrowandfurness were contacted by Alvina from Reasons to Go North.
Based near Kendal, Alvina blogs about her walking trips in Cumbria and beyond, plus local countryside and environmental issues. We will be featuring her walks in Furness and the surrounding area over the coming months - so keep looking out for her articles.
The first blog is about Volunteering with the South Cumbria Rivers Trust.
Like many environmental organisations they are being hit hard by reduced government funding and therefore lack of man power to do surveys and gather data on the health of our rivers. The new project they are promoting is for volunteers to take basic data on the health of streams in the South Lakeland area.
