Walney to Whitby Charity Cycle Ride

When it comes to fundraising for charity, there's no stopping some people. They push themselves to breaking point, so that others can benefit.

The pain, sacrifice and courage they display in their fundraising efforts is incredible.

I’m especially impressed when people do something that’s physically challenging. As someone who gets tired just running a bath, I doff my hat to those who push themselves to the brink physically and mentally to help raise money and awareness for causes that help our community.

Next month, a team of cyclists are taking on the Walney to Whitby coast to coast challenge. It’s a gruelling 152 mile trip that the riders are aiming to complete in just one day.

One day!

That’s a gruelling amount of time in the saddle, and it’s all in aid of St. Mary’s Hospice.

The team (who will be backed by a support vehicle crew) are looking to smash their £2500 target by taking part in this ride. It’s a fantastic amount of money, and if the team do achieve that total, the money could provide 301 in-patient meals or 132 hours of patient care. It could also enable 29 patients to attend day care.

Businesses have contributed to making this event happen. Local garages have helped make this challenge possible by raising money to help pay for the rider’s accommodation costs.

The ride is scheduled to take place on July 23/24 and we wish all riders and members of the crew every success.
