Anyone who really knows me, knows that one of my biggest passions in my life (aside from my family and my beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers) is my love of comics.

To me, they’re the ultimate in creativity. Think about it! Encapsulated in 20 – 22 pages (the average pagination for a modern comic) is an incredible amount of artistry, storytelling, dialogue and imagination, full of characters that you care about with stories that get you hooked, making you come back for more. Each one is a unique, enjoyable piece of art.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is a brilliant event, a 3 day festival, showcasing the very best of comic art. The festival takes place in Kendal every October , bringing together some of the world’s finest comic artists and writers over a 3 day period, where you can hear and see first- hand just how much work, dedication, preparation, skill, talent and creativity goes into bringing a comic to life.

The festival plays host to many nations, and this year, the Scots will be firmly in the spotlight.

This is your chance to meet some of Scotland’s finest comic creators including: Superman artist Frank Quitely, Judge Dredd & Star Wars artist – Cam Kennedy, Veteran Commando & Eagle Artist – Ian Kennedy and 2000Ad writers Alan Grant & John Wagner. As well as meet newcomers and rising stars such as John Ferguson, creator of Scottish superhero SaltireMonty Nero and the Festival's youngest guest, Drew Marr.

Also at the event will be Phillip Vaughn, Senior Lecturer in Comic Studies at the University of Dundee and accomplished game designer, comic artist and consultant on this project, will discuss the rise of Saltire and the politics of national identity with its creator and author, John Ferguson.

Author and comics expert John McShane will also be on hand, on stage interviewing many of the Festival's international line-up of guests - and the Comics Clock Tower will play host to many talents from north of Hadrian's Wall.

There’s something for everyone – whether you’re a comic veteran, new to comics, or someone who just loves seeing artists at work, or loves to find out about the writing process.
