It’s said that it takes 28 days to form a new habit. Now, whether you believe that statement to be true or not  here’s an interesting fact for you:

If you stop smoking for 28 days, you’ll be 5 times more likely to quit for good!

As a former smoker myself, I know all too well how difficult it was to quit. Willpower and going it alone is difficult, so getting advice, support, and being held accountable is vital to kick the habit for good. That’s why Stoptober is such a fantastic campaign.

Stoptober is a challenge that encourages and supports smokers across England towards quitting for good.

So how does Stoptober work? Well there a numerous ways to quit and Stoptober helps people choose what works for them.

You can quit using medication (including nicotine replacement therapies such as patches or gum) or E-cigarettes - something that a great local business is on hand to help you with.

The E-Cig Man in Barrow Market is on a mission this October to help 20 people stop smoking. On Saturday 29th September Jerry will be giving the first 20 smokers who visit his stall a free e-cigarette and a weeks supply of juice - for free. So there's no excuse, pop along - see Jerry on the stall and make a start on your smoke-free journey.

Stoptober also offers a range of free support to help people on their journey including an app and daily supportive emails containing quitting tips and advice straight to your inbox throughout the 28 days. You can chat with the team when you’ve got a craving on Facebook Messenger and you’ll find plenty of encouragement and support from the Stoptober online community on Facebook.

Local stop smoking services will be offering expert face-to-face advice too. Those who use stop smoking aids and who receive face-to face support from their local stop smoking service are up to four times more likely to successfully quit smoking.

So kick the habit for good and take the Stoptober challenge because there’s only one you!
