Sports Clubs for Juniors

There’s never a shortage of sporting clubs that youngsters can join in Barrow and Furness. Not only is it great for them to exercise and keep fit, but being part of a team builds confidence and social skills too.

The area has a great sporting heritage, and there are plenty of junior sports clubs covering a wide range of different sports that youngsters can get involved in.

Several of the areas clubs are looking for new members this summer. There are training sessions available for all ages in a variety of sports.

Barrow and Furness Striders are holding club training sessions on Mondays and Thursdays at the fantastic Furness Academy athletics track. Training for under 11’s (minimum age 8) is between 5.30pm – 6.30pm, with other ages starting afterwards from 6.30pm

Barrow Celtic are currently looking for new players for next seasons under 14’s team. Training takes place every Monday at the Furness College3G pitch from 6.30pm – 7.30pm. For more information contact Manager Lee Smith on 07835 339701, or Coach Terry Molyneux on 07429 886959

Hindpool Tigers have started Cubs Rugby League sessions for 4 – 5 year olds. Sessions are open to both boys and girls and take place at Brisbane Park on Wednesdays at 5.30pm. For further information please email hindpooltiger@hotmail.com

There are also a series of bowling competitions taking place this summer for junior bowlers.

The Sam Howarth Trophy will be contested for at Walney Park on Sunday August 23rd. There’s an age limit of 18 for this event and bowling starts at 11am. The cost of entry is £2.

 The Joe Wardman Trophy takes place at Salthouse on Sunday September 6th. The same age limits and start times apply.
