UK Travel Company of the year 2011 - Barrhead Travel are to open their first office in Furness, creating 40 new jobs.
The Glasgow-based travel company, which specialises in cruises, is opening a call centre at Emlyn Hughes House in Barrow, Cumbria.
Barrhead Travel, a 37-year-old family-run business, employs 550 people in 34 offices across Scotland. Managing Director Jacqueline Dobson said the plan was to expand further in the town over the next six months.
Ms Dobson said opening the Barrow office was part of the company's plans to "expand south".
