Local residents, businesses and community groups are being asked to become ‘litter heroes’ by getting behind Ormsgill’s BIG clean event, on Saturday 10th March.

As part of the Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’, the event seeks to inspire people to roll up their sleeves and get involved in a community litter pick and ‘tidy-up’ in Ormsgill.

The council will be on hand to lend support to residents in several ways, including collecting extra waste and providing equipment to help make jobs quicker and easier.

Cllr Bill McEwan, Deputy Leader of County Council Local Committee for Barrow, said: “The BIG clean up provides a great opportunity for the people of Ormsgill to come together and make a real difference to how the area looks.

“We know that the vast majority of Ormsgill residents take a real pride in their local area and want to support the work of the council to keep it litter free. We want everyone to be proud of and enjoy the area where they live, which is why we are having the Ormsgill BIG Clean; so we can work with local people to improve their estate. We know that clean streets are a priority for our residents.’

The Big Clean meets at Ormsgill Children’s Centre car park at 11.00am on Saturday 10th March.

If you have gloves, then please bring them with you; if you haven’t, don’t worry, a pair can be provided for you on the day.

To keep volunteers spirits and energy up, free sausage rolls and refreshments will be provided on the day.
