You don’t need me to tell you that everyone’s feeling the pinch at the moment.

With soaring utility bills, fuel prices and your average food shop costing you more and more each week, it’s an ongoing struggle to pay bills and put food on the table.

Well, help is at hand thanks to a brilliant community project.

Ormsgill Community Fridge is a service that aims to help support the community and help prevent food waste at the same time.

The initiative was set up by the community group Ormsgill Stronger Together and has been a vital resource for local people. They accept fresh food donations from Co-Op, Morrisons and Ormsgill Spar and people can turn up on set days to take the food on offer.

It’s proved to be very popular – in just it’s first week of opening it was estimated that Ormsgill Community Fridge saved just under 540 kg of goods from going to landfill.

The service is available for EVERYONE to use. This project is just as much about cutting down food waste as it is supporting the community. It’s there for people to access – if the food isn’t taken then it will be wasted!!

Ormsgill Community Fridge is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9am – 10am at Ormsgill Community Centre.

You can find out more about the service and the fantastic work being done by checking out the Ormsgill Stronger Together Facebook page.
