This week saw the start of a public consultation to gather ideas and opinions for the potential £13m redevelopment of Ulverston’s existing Leisure facilities on Priory Road.
Residents can have their say – whether they use the existing facilities or not, their views are most welcome. So if you’re a leisure centre customer, a member of a club, or user group, stakeholder, health professional, a member of Ulverston Town Council or a school, now is your chance to have your voice heard.
Having state of the art leisure facilities in Ulverston would be fantastic. The current centre offers many great opportunities for people to socialise and get fit, active and healthy. This potential, exciting development could bring a lot of great benefits to the town.
The proposals that have been drawn up include a brand new leisure centre, housing a swimming pool, gym, studio space, indoor tennis/ multi use hall as well as a café, meeting and social spaces and outdoor facilities including all weather sports pitches.
Councillor Chris Hogg, SLDC portfolio holder for Culture and Wellbeing, said: “We are very excited about the potential of this development. Now it is very important that we hear the views from the local community, stakeholders and partners on the proposals.
“This has the potential to secure the future of leisure provision in Ulverston and the surrounding area, and would improve the leisure offer and help people to live healthier and more active lives.”
The public consultation runs for 6 weeks - from Monday 7th November 2016 to 5pm on Monday 16th December 2016.
As part of the public consultation a number of ‘drop-in’ sessions are planned to help capture local views on the new leisure facilities proposals:
An online survey is being used to capture the community’s views. The web address for the survey is: www.southlakeland.gov.uk/ulverston-leisure-masterplan
For anyone that doesn’t have access to the website or can’t attend one of the drop-in events, copies of the survey will also be available from Ulverston Swimming Pool and from GSK Sports Club.
