Memories Needed!
10th March 2017

Were you a member of any of the local working men’s clubs or institutes? Maybe you have photos of the old club buildings, or would like to share your memories?

If so, Barrow Archive & Local Studies Centre would love to hear from you.

In January 2017 Barrow Working Men’s Club on Abbey Road (House of Lords to many) caught fire and was badly damaged.  It has been said that a room there contained a number of documents relating to the club which have now been destroyed.  Fortunately the minute books of the committee had been deposited in the Barrow Archive and Local Studies Centre and are therefore safe.

Barrow Archive Centre are holding a drop in session on Tuesday 28 March between 10 am and 12.30 and then between 2 and 4.30pm when anyone can bring in photographs of the inside and outside of any of the social clubs that have existed in the area. They would be pleased to accept relevant photographs, documents, membership cards on long term loan or to scan and return them. They would also like to record people’s memories of the clubs to add to their oral history collection.

So if you have any suitable material, photographs or memories, or know anyone who might; then please come along to the drop in session on the 28th of March.
