An award ceremony taking place at The Forum tonight showcases some of the wonderful community champions, volunteers and inspirational people who make our community so special.

The Love Barrow Awards have once again attracted an incredible list of finalists, and it promises to be an absolutely fantastic evening.

This year the  10 categories are:

Teacher of the Year

Carer of the Year

Community Focussed Business

Trainee/ Apprentice of the Year

Environmental Award

Sports Volunteer of the Year

Courage Award

Young Citizen of the Year

Group of the Year

Citizen of the Year

There will also be a special Ambassador of the Year Award which will be given out on the night to a surprise recipient who’s efforts  has made a fantastic contribution to the region.

And, for the first time in its history, the Love Barrow Awards will give one of the finalists the Love Barrow People’s Choice Award.

It’s only fitting that an awards ceremony for local people has an award based on a public vote. All 30 finalists from the 10 categories were in the running for this accolade. The Evening Mail ran a competition where you could text or vote online for your choice. The votes have been counted and the winner will be revealed tonight.

We live in a fantastic area, full of incredible, selfless people. This event serves as a reminder that there’s local heroes out there, who really value and want to make a difference to their community – not because they have to (they don’t), but because they want to serve the community and put others first.

We wish all the finalists for tonight’s awards the very best of luck. And whether they pick up an award or not - they’re all winners in our eyes!
