When it comes to beautiful scenery and popular visitor attractions, our little part of the country is pretty hard to beat. We’re lucky enough to be spoilt with spectacular views and wonderful places to visit.

One of our most popular attractions has been recognised and presented with a top gardening award.

Holker Hall & Gardens has been crowned Garden of the Year in the  BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2015/16, beating some very stiff competition from across the whole of the UK.

The awards celebrate the very best that the countryside has to offer. There are 11 categories ranging from nature reserve of the year to pub of the year. In order to whittle down contenders for each category, an expert in that particular field picked their top 5. The winner being decided by the public vote.

In the Garden of the Year award Lucy Hall the editor of Gardener’s World picked her top 5 gardens which included Beth Chatto Gardens in Essex, Glendoick Gardens in Scotland, Veddw House Garden Wales, Croome Court in The Midlands, and Holker Hall.

Holker Hall and Gardens Head of Visitor Services, Jillian Rouse comments; “We were thrilled to be nominated for the BBC Countryside Awards and even more delighted to win the title of ‘Garden of Year’.  Holker Hall and Gardens have been lovingly tendered by generations and it means a great deal to be honoured with this award by the public who recognise the dedication, love and commitment which goes in to ensuring they are enjoyed by our visitors”.

It won’t be long now, till you can see the award winning gardens for yourself, up close and in all their splendour.

Holker Hall and Gardens are open for the 2016 season from 20th March to 30th October, Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays.  The Hall opens 11am to 4pm, Gardens open 10.30am to 5pm and the café, gift shop and food hall open from 10.30am to 5pm.
