Help raise funds and awareness for MIND in Furness.

It’s a worrying fact, but 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year!

In England alone, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression, in any given week! That’s frightening – especially as those are just the ones that are reported, many, many others aren’t.

Mental health problems will affect most of us directly or indirectly in our lifetime – something that, unfortunately Maureen McKendry knows all too well.

Maureen tragically lost her brother in law Paul at the young age of 48 back in November last year.

On the 4th August 2018, together with her sister, Maureen will be competing in this year’s Total Warrior event in Paul’s memory and to also raise funds and awareness for local mental health charity Mind In Furness. They will be part of a team of 14 who will be braving a course designed to test their endurance over 10km of mud, water, ice, fire and 25 gruelling obstacles – pushing them to their absolute limit.

That’s a massive challenge, but one the team is fully focused on achieving, as Maureen explains:

Mind is a charity that provides advice and support to help ‘ANYONE’ experiencing a mental health problem.  They campaign to improve their services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

They help to improve the quality of life for people (and their families) suffering from, or with the potential to suffer from, mental distress by providing and encouraging user-led activities and services and to increase awareness of those issues through education and a strong, positive presence in the local community.  They hold a weekly men’s and women’s group and also a Hearing Voice Group fortnightly in the area.

None of us know if or when we or our family members may need this type of help.  Please help me to raise funds to support their excellent work so that they can reach out to more people, empowering them to speak out and ask for help when they need it most.”

We wish Maureen, her sister and the rest of the team the very best of luck for August.
