with guest speaker Dr Geoff Joliffe

How does a small business manage absence in the workplace?  This question will be answered at a seminar being held by the Federation of Small Businesses on Monday 21st January at 5.30pm at the Custom House. This is becoming an increasingly more important part of managing employees in the light of potential claims for discrimination on the grounds of disability.  Indeed, what constitutes a disability under the Equality Act of 2010?

Without access to an Occupational Health Department, it is difficult for small business owners to deal with both absenteeism and presenteeism (the term used to describe employees who are unwell but turn up for work) in a way that is equitable to both the employer and the employee.

The speaker - Dr Geoff Joliffe, lead GP from the Furness Locality and member of the new countywide Clinical Commissioning Group, to talk about his views for a potential "collective" service providing occupational health to small businesses in the area.

This event is open to all Furness business owners and is FREE.

Venue - The Custom House, Barrow - Monday 21st January at 5.30pm
