Fun For All The Family – A Round Up Of What’s On At Whit In Furness


Whit week half-term is just around the corner and here at The Best of Barrow and Furness we know of many events that'll keep you and the kids entertained.

On the 22nd of May the King of Piel will be ordaining a new knight. There will be a guide to walk across to Piel meeting at 11am on Walney Island.

Also on the 22nd of May Barrow Savoyards will be performing the best of Gilbert and Sullivan at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston. Tickets are £6.50 with an afternoon tea or £4.50 without, the show starts at 2pm.

On the 24th at Ford Park in Ulverston it’s the Shetland Pony and Panto Horse Grand National, it promises to be a great day out with a car boot sale and fun-fair for the kids. The day is in aid of restoring Hearts of Oak, the last Morcambe Bay Prawner to be built on Ulverston's Canal and entry is £1.50.

Abbey Mills Café is hosting a Picnic and Treasure Hunt on the 28th. There will be picnic boxes available for the kids at £3.25 a box, a treasure hunt and from 1pm onwards a bouncy castle and face painting. Abbey Mills Café can be found near Furness Abbey and as a tip from us, try the ice cream.

If you go down to the South Lakes Wild Animal Park on the 29th you're in for a big surprise. That's right there will be a 'Bring a Bear, Teddy Bear’s Picnic entry to the park is free for you but the bear will have to pay £2 with all proceeds going to a spectacled bear conservation project.

The Festival of Fools at Muncaster Castle begins on the 30th of May and continues for five days. It includes a fair with children's activities and daily circus workshops.

On the 31st, Bank holiday Monday, the Dock Museum in Barrow is hosting a fun day, with the Fairly Famous Family doing shows throughout the day. Entry to the museum is free between 11am-5pm and the shows will be at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Well, that should be enough to keep the little ones busy and if it isn't there is plenty more on offer in the area all year round. Every Sunday at the Custom House Lazerzone is Blazorgs Juniors club for those aged 8+ it runs from 10am-1pm. The cost is £10 and there is an included burger and fries lunch. Also did you know that under 16’s can now swim at The Park Leisure Centre for free!
