Exciting times ahead for Barrow AFC

The country is currently gripped by football fever, as Euro 2016 is in full swing and with England still in the competition (well they were at time of writing, but hey - things may have changed by 10pm tonight!)

But forget the National team for a moment; things are really looking up for Barrow AFC too!

It doesn’t seem that long ago since the end of last season, but nothing ever stands still at the club, and everything is being done (on and off the pitch) to make sure that the upcoming season goes really well.

The club have made some very astute signings recently, with Nick Wilmer-Anderton, Moussa Diarra, Ross Hannah, Richie Bennett, Liam Hughes, Paul Turnbull and Linden Meikle all joining the Bluebirds in the close season.

They’ve also signed one of the best right backs in League Two in Shaun Beeney who’s arrived from Morecombe.

Off the pitch, the club have had their loyal team of volunteers working tirelessly to make sure the ground and its facilities are brought up to scratch. Handrails have been removed and repainted, the club shop fitting room has been completed, a huge pile of rubble from under the stand has been removed, and the pitch is looking as good as ever. It’s been hard work (and there’s still some to do) but once more the volunteers at the club have put in another fantastic shift to make the ground look superb.

So here’s to a great 2016/2017 season.  Let’s get behind the club. With all the hard work and quality players on display, who knows, we may be looking forward to seeing Barrow playing League football this time next year!

(Barrow AFC’s first pre- season friendly takes place at Holker Old Boy’s this Saturday when they take on Furness Select XI. Kick Off is 2pm.)
