Reading for entertainment; for fun, is one of the most important things for a child to do. It broadens their horizons, fires up their imaginations and sparks their creativity. It allows them to explore new worlds, characters and emotions, it helps your child’s ability to communicate as well as improving their writing, punctuation and spelling.
Once a child has been immersed in the world of books – they quite often want to stay,and continue reading for pleasure throughout their lives. That’s the beauty of reading – it’s something you carry with you and treasure as you grow.
With the Christmas holidays fast approaching, it’s important to make sure our kids still have the opportunity to carry on with their reading.
The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep up their reading habits over the winter holidays, with a free-to-access website featuring rewards and incentives for reading and reviewing books.
This winter The Reading Agency are very excited to team up with award-winning inclusive publisher Knights Of to run an Everyone Is A Hero themed Mini Challenge to celebrate heroes in all their forms.
To take part, children simply read three or more books - these can be any books of their choice. Every time they finish a book, they add it to their Challenge website profile and leave a short book review.
Reaching their online reading goal will unlock a virtual badge and a special Everyone Is A Hero certificate to print off and keep!
The Winter Mini Challenge started on Tuesday 1 December 2020 and finishes on Friday 15 January 2021.
