We’re constantly kept up to speed with how our local football and rugby teams are doing.

So when you mention local sports and sporting teams, basketball may not be one that springs to mind straight away. But Barrow Thorns has been competing in every level of junior basketball since 1976!

They have both boys and girls teams (they also have a men’s team, giving players the chance to carry on playing once they’ve left the junior sides) and meet and train at Hoops Basketball Centre.

The Under 16’s Boys Team have performed exceptionally well this season and have made it to the National Basketball Play offs.

The talented side will now face Thames Valley in West London. Reaching the last 16 from divisions across the country is a fantastic achievement. It will be a tough challenge against Thames Valley, they’re a very good team, but everyone at the club believes that they can progress further.

It’s the first time that Barrow Thorn’s U16’s have reached the play offs. It caps a fantastic season that saw them finish second in their league; ahead of teams from Liverpool, Manchester and Stockport. Coach Sam Hearty said “We’re overwhelmed at the teams success this year. It’s a great achievement for the club and brilliant for local teams in Barrow to do so well in the sport.”

Congratulations guys, and good luck in the play offs!
