The Bay Hospital Charity launched the Bayb’s Maternity Appeal 5 months ago aiming to raise £250,000 to fund additional equipment, furnishings and birthing aids helping mums give their babies the best possible start in life in the new maternity unit at Furness General Hospital.

£11m has been set aside by the NHS to build the new maternity unit, and whilst this investment is wonderful news, but there is little money left for those extra items, equipment and furnishings to make the unit a ‘home from home’ for mums-to-be and their partners.

Bringing new life into the world, and being able to so with the very best equipment, care and support is something that should be available to all mums-to-be; which is why the cutting edge new maternity unit that’s currently under construction at Furness General Hospital is such an exciting development.

Set to open in January 2018, it will be one of the best equipped in the UK, consisting of 14 en-suite rooms, 2 additional theatres and a 4 cot special baby unit.

The great news is that in the 5 months since the appeal started the Baby’s Maternity Appeal has reached the £100,000 mark!

The charity recently received a sizeable donation of £28,000 from the charity MedEquip4Kids to purchase 6 resuscitaires. The charity MedEquip4Kids raises money to promote paediatric medical equipment and facilities for hospital and community health teams throughout the Northwest.

Fantastic news, but there’s still a lot of money left to raise, so if you’d like to get involved and help the charity, there’s plenty of ways to do so.

The Wiggle Waggle Dog walk takes place on Sunday August 27th  It’s a great way for you and your dog to raise money for charity, whilst enjoying the great outdoors. https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/barrow-and-furness/events/feature/wiggle-waggle-sponsored-dog-walk/

There are also fundraisers taking place throughout the year organised by businesses and community groups. You could encourage schools and organisations to get involved too; it could be through a sponsored walk, bike ride, bake off, quiz night, or even a sponsored parachute jump! There’s no limit to how you can help.
