The Antiques Roadshow was always a must see on a Sunday evening in my parent’s house.
Always set in beautiful historic locations, with a team of experts on hand to cast an appraising eye over anything from Chinese pottery to Victorian Jewellery – it was compulsive viewing.
From all over the country people would bring their treasures and family heirlooms out of the loft or out of a box (that always seemed to be in the bottom of a wardrobe somewhere), retelling their stories about how it came into their possession.
And then of course came the moment they really turned up for – the valuation; and the look of surprise (or disappointment) when they’re told how much it’s worth.
This Summer, The Antiques Roadshow is coming to Holker Hall.
Set in 18,000 the Holker Estate is the perfect setting for the roadshow, and gives local folk the perfect opportunity to bring their valuables along to be appraised; and maybe the chance to get on the television too.
This will be the third time that the show has come to South Lakeland. Back in 1985 Hugh Scully and his team filmed in the area, and Michael Aspel also filmed here in 2003.
These days Fiona Bruce is at the helm, and the whole Antiques Roadshow Team will be looking over the regions tucked away treasures on July 6th. So mark the date in your diary, and if you have any antiques, make sure they’re dusted down and brought over to Holker Hall this Summer.
