Age UK South Lakeland has added an impressive new store to its 10 stores across the area (which includes one in Rawlinson Street- Barrow, and one in New Market Street –Ulverston)

A new, suitable location was sought to help boost income for the charity, and now they’ve found it. Located at Oubas Hill (opposite Booths Supermarket) the new superstore resembles a department store more than your stereotypical charity shop.

The large building gives the charity the ability to sell large items of furniture – items that can really help generate a lot of money. Sites like the ones in Grange, Milnthorpe and Kendal already exist, but this is a first for this area.

Being able to offer so much more to its customers is key to the success of this store, as the extra money raised will be ploughed back into the community, helping lots of local people through a range of different projects and services. Last year the charity helped 11,000 people in South Lakeland, and want to build on this total this year.

The opening of the new store doesn’t signal the end for the shop in New Market Street, far from it. It was due to the success and support that shop has received that brought about the idea of opening a larger one in the first place.

To some, the words charity shop conjures up images of dark, dingy places, littered with brick-a-brack that no-one in their right mind would want; but don’t be fooled. The new superstore is spacious (4,000 sq feet) light and airy and full of top quality items.

So pop along to the new Age UK Superstore; you’ll be pleasantly surprised – and you may just pick up a bargain or two!!

They are urgently looking for donations so please contact them on 01229 587370 for FREE collection of bulky or large items.
