Took my 77 year old parents here today. We were offered a guided tour or we could walk around by ourselves. We opted to have the guided tour as you often gain more information that way. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the leather industry and the local town. The resident saddler was passionate about his job and spent a long time demonstrating his skills and answering our questions.
We didn't stop in the cafe as we had made other arrangements for lunch.
The time flew by and we really enjoyed our visit. Would recommend it.
There is NO entry fee!! We made a contribution though and made a purchase in the gift shop.

A very nice and friendly museum with an onsite cafe. Lots of information about the history of leather making in Walsall. When we visited there was an exhibition of Old Hall Stainless Steel tableware which was very well presented with a lot of information. The Museum Shop has a good selection of very good quality leather gifts. Will definitely recommend to friends.

Took a party of people to Leather Museum who were totally absorbed with the displays and presentation of the history and development of the leather and saddle making industry in Walsall. The enthusiasm of the staff was a delight to experience. A guided tour planned for 1 hour lasted nearly 2 hours and some members want to go back again. It was well worth making a donation at the end of the tour to keep such wonderful parts of our historical heritage in the public domain.

I took two groups of Year 11 pupils on two separate day visits to Walsall Leather museum. The pupils experienced a range of activities- such as ink making and writing with a quill to making a dog collar and leather key fobs, trying on items of clothing made from leather and handling a range of different leather skins; learning how to tell the difference between real and fake snake skin for example, David Mills led the activities and the tour of the museum. He was excellent with the pupils explaining and answering questions, demonstrating a wide knowledge and real enthusiasm for both the place and his work.

These visits were part of our Arts Award exam work exploring pupils local heritage, It is such an interesting place to visit, a real gem. The museum has managed to keep the original workshops and feel of the place alongside modern amenities. The display cabinets hold items of interest from the heritage of Walsall and when we were there the needlework display was stunning- all made by different areas and covering the range of industry and cultural heritage of the local areas.

It is certainly a place for local people to be proud of and to show visitors the skills and workmanship of the folk who worked in the leather and manufacturing industry in Walsall, All the staff are helpful and friendly and the cafe is good too!

I'd always wanted to go but never quite made time until this week.

Wow - to start with its free which would normally be a warning to not go - in this case it's a bonus. Secondly it's a nice size - just large enough to be very informative and interested but too long.

The demonstrators were chatty and very experienced - I leant lots of things about saddles that make a lot of sense but had never occurred to me. I also got to make a key ring.

The cafe is very good. Well priced beautiful food.

Walsall is very proud of its leather making history and should be very proud of its museum.

I only live a few miles from this Museum but had never visited it until the other day. I am really glad I did because this is a lovely Museum, educational, interesting, well presented displays plus a café and a live demonstration of leather craft. I intend to return with my friend soon.

Set in a restored leather factory and with an excellent guide, this museum provides a detailed insight into this local historic industry, which our group thoroughly enjoyed. This was completed by an overview of the skilled creation of small leather goods and the various types of leather used. We even had the chance to emboss key rings for ourselves. Well worth a visit.

Our Co-op History Group visited the museum yesterday (25th March) and were made very welcome. We had a conducted tour of the museum and a demonstration/talk on the use of leather, the different types of leather and the manufacture of small leather goods. It was all very interesting and quite entertaining! We learned a lot about the processes and skill involved; we even 'made' our own keyrings! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic - we were very impressed. It is well worth a visit - the cafe has a good selection of hot and cold food so make a day of it!

I have been living in Walsall for 30 years and never been here till my kids mentioned they went with the school trip. So I decided to go with the kids and see what the fuss was all about. First impressions it's free lol. This place is great and holds the leather history of walsall which I had no idea it existed. This place has really opened my eyes and started to appreciate my home town more. Would definitely recommend this place, we all need to make time to visit this Place as Often as we can. From what I have heard the walsall council is considering closing this palace down. And if that does happen it be a great loss to walsall and their community. So come on people lets work together to keep this history of walsall alive.

I didn't get to spend much time here but I'm sure next time I'll be hanging around for a lot longer

The staff are charming and very knowledgable

Their passion was soooo evident to see in the manner they spoke in, I'm talking in particular about the lady at the shop / reception. She invited me to come back soon for an exibition and was very helpful when I asked about a particular restaurant in the area

Will hopefully visit again sometime in the future

I worked in Walsall for years and drove past this museum frequently but had never visited until this week. What a great little place! I went with a small group and we had a wonderful guided tour. Our guide was great, very knowledgeable and just lovely and friendly. I had a vague idea about Walsall's leather industry but mainly from colleagues who explained why the football club were called the Saddlers so it was great to hear more of the details. The museum is well laid out, with lots to see. The workshop volunteers are not there on Tuesdays but our guide gave good explanations and there was an opportunity to make a keyring for those who wanted to. There was also some local embroidery/tapestries on display which were lovely. Following our tour, we went to the cafe which was very pleasant. The museum does craft sessions for children during the school holidays so I will definitely be taking my grand-daughter along

Walsall Leather Museum has so much to offer. The museum itself has so many interesting artefacts to look at with exhibitions changing very regularly and the story of Leather in Walsall is really brought to life. The shop has beautiful leather gifts to buy of lovely quality. I am really enjoying visiting the museum every month to learn new crafting skills and meet lots of lovely new people. I can highly recommend to everyone, whatever your age.

Great place with lots to see and learn eg all the surnames associated with leather, the tanning and 'currying' processes, and displays of leather goods up to the present day, Good for any age except really small children - it's not that spacious - but for older ones there are demos and 'have a go' sessions at certain times (check before you go). A bonus for the next couple of months is the 'Old Hall' exhibition - nothing to do with leather but a local firm famous for stylish stainless steel tableware from 30s - 80s. An Old Hall item on your wedding list was a must in the 1970s! The museum is currently free but helpful Ian on the desk warns there will be a charge from 4th April, so get in quick! The cafe - Claudia's kitchen - is worth a stop - very friendly staff (as are they all in the museum) and very fair prices.

Visited the leather museum, to be honest we had an hour to pass, was very very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the attraction. The staff there were fantastic, there enthuses and passion for the museum is amazing, the knowledge of them is second to none.
In all it was a shame to only have a short time, I will return, and spend more time with the staff listening to the fascinating stories of their knowledge.
