We enjoyed a most interesting and informative visit, to go back in time to see what made Walsall great in the leather trade. I came from Walsall and two of my aunts worked in the trade, my mother did Outwork, making wallets, purses and bags at home. My grandsons aged 4 & 8 thought it was to great to get "hands on" and make their own key fobs, and loved hearing about the history of the leather industry. The Museum is well sign posted, there's a public car park opposite, a ideal location. Its free to enter, clean, safe to walk around, and well maintained.

What a great experience, truly a Beacon of Walsall cultural heritage, myself and my family learn so much the staff is amazing, friendly helpfull and so knowledgeable. Thank you for your kindness and care for Walsall history. You can park at tesco across the road.Visited on

I went with a friend who lives locally- this was an unexpected treat!! Excellent social history of Walsall, the city pf 1,000 trades. I had no idea( but I do now!) of the importance of the leather industry and the trades it supported.
We got chatting to Awais who was a volunteer, he was very informative and an excellent speaker. He was passionate about leather work and that translated into his admiration of the museum.
It was a good find for me - the displays were informative and interesting with plenty of examples of work. I loved the coconut machine- you turn the handle and it makes a clip clop noise!!

Fantastic! I’ve been thinking about visiting this museum for a long time and wish I’d done so sooner.
It was fascinating to learn about the history of leather making and even better to be able to touch the different grades of leather , saddles and make key rings.
The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.
It’s an absolute gem and definitely too good to miss !

A small free museum that is handy to kill time or shelter from rain, it's a short history of the industry that built Walsall primarily the horse saddler trade.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff. I was surprised to find it was free entry aswell. Very informative. The only thing i would say is that there is no free parking but there is a local tesco which gives you 2 hours free as long as you spend £5 instore. Don't forget to validate your parking.Visited on

A wonderful free museum, tell the story of leather making in the local area. Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable and were happy to chat about the museum and it's contents. We got to make our keyrings, for the crazy price of just 60P!!!
Well worth a visit, would highly recommend, please don't let this little gem close.

I manage a service for vulnerable adults, we have taken a few small groups to the leather museum over the year and they have absolutely loved it. The staff cannot do enough for our guys. Thank you

Paid a visit here today, I have been trying for many years. Wow it was definitely worth it. I assume it is run by volunteers the guy that showed us around today Ralph was very informative he explained all processes in detail. We were surprised how many quality products were and are still made in the area. All of the staff were very helpfull and we can recommend if you are close by to pay a visit. Another volunteer Awais spent a long time explaining how he got involved with the museum and he has now persevered and had been taught the trade producing some very impressive items.We look forward to another visit in the near future.

What a wonderful museum. The man at shop was a dream to talk to.also the museum leather man think his name was Ian bot. Please forgive me if that's wrong a very kind remarkable man. A very interesting and compact museum which details the history of an important West Midlands industry. An array of leather samples and a talk from from the team there with workshops to explore. We made key rings for family members. On the ground floor there is a small cafe and leather items for sale.

Great museum filled with local history. The volunteers are friendly and their knowledge incredible. You can really tell they have a passion for what they do which adds to the experience. Will be back soon to make some keyrings :)
