On the first unseasonal really sunny day of 2017 we enjoyed an excellent Carvery meal and then decided to walk of the effects with an afternoon in Walsall Arboretum.

Having not been there for a number of years we were pleasantly surprised at how clean and peaceful it was, despite there being many couples and families out enjoying the facilities.

We had a very pleasant walk around, enjoying the surroundings, watching the pedalo swans on the lake and the children feeding the ducks (you can buy proper food there, bread is not recommended. Bad for the wildlife and terribly polluting).

There is a café serving hot and cold drinks and snacks. Also a good number of picnic tables and benches if you wish to take your own food and drinks.

All in a very happy afternoon, the pleasure heightened of course by the unseasonally warm weather.

Best place to walk the dogs and let them run free - most dog owners are pretty good at controlling their own. plenty of bins. lovely in the summer- though a little crowded on weekends when the weather is nice. but the new renovations over the last few years - the cafe etc - have made it a really nice place to spend from an hour to a day there.

Good park, well looked after and the play area for the children is very good.
The major down side for us is it can get very busy when the weather is nice and large groups of youths hang about, but that's the problem with a free open space park in an inner town environment, this can spoil your enjoyment of what should be a pleasant experience. Sadly this seems tobe a common problem with these type of parks in these types of areas.

Decent open space to go for a walk or kids to the play area. Not as good as other Arboretums I've visited but good play facilities.

Lots of different things to do around a very pretty park. Nice cafe area for drink, football area and a park. The kids enjoyed looking at the ducks

Since the park had a successful Heritage lottery bid of near 5 million pounds a few years ago most of the work has been completed, mainly in the old Victorian part. There is a brand new visitor centre which includes a cafe, renovated band stand where many free concerts are performed and boathouse. The whole site has been landscaped and looks fantastic.
It really is the jewel in the crown for Walsall and is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. A new car park is in the arboretum extension and during the summer has a train running which makes for easy access. The play area now has a water feature for youngsters and has new play equipment, including a small skate park. My grandchildren live in London but say this is the best park.
It is a lovely place to walk dogs with plenty of litter bins and hundreds of owners use it daily, including me with my Westie, Poppy.
Finally, do a picnic and is a cheap way to entertain the family during summer hols. Nearly forgot, cycling is allowed.

I am a regular visitor to the park and can say that it has always been a gem in the town but has improved greatly since the recent renovation. The main park has lovely walks along woodland areas, along the stream, lake area, along open grassed areas and also more wilder wildlife friendly tracks where the old municipal golf course once belonged.
Lovely planting throughout my only concern is the vast amount of the invasive Himalayan balsam flower along side the stream areas.
A great park with something for everyone.

Me and my wife went for a walk around the Arboretum on a Sunday afternoon. It was our first visit for awhile and we never know why we don't go more often there is lots to do and see it is easily one of the best local parks you will visit.

Beautifully kept, large lake (ex Lime pit) and long walks on fully tarmacced paths. A real gem. Short walk from town centre and railway and bus stations. Plenty of buses to/from town centre (National Express WM 8,89,10,7,6, Arriva 3,25) 2 stops

It had been quite a while since i have been to the arboretum and many improvements have taken place. I went with my two dogs and thought it was peaceful but busy, there was plenty of room for all. I did not try the coffee shop on this occasion. I will be returning very soon, well maintained, keep up the good work!

Decided to visit the Arboretum for a Sunday afternoon stroll. We have not been here for about 19 years and was nicely surprised by the overall look. It was all very well maintained and ideal for families with prams or disabled people, as most of the paths were flat. It was quite busy but seemed quiet and relaxing.

This is still a very enjoyable place to visit..a big "well done" should go to all concerned starting with Walsall Council. Councils get criticised for a lot of things but they have performed well here.

The Caterers took over about a year ago and still operate to a high standard. The park itself is very enjoyable and the Visitor Centre is excellent with great facilities.

A lesson for Sutton Park, not far away.
