We offer our winter driving tips, from preparing your vehicle for the winter and looking after your vehicle battery to driving in snow.

Keeping your car prepared

The key things to ensure in order to keep your car ready for whatever this winter throws at you are:

  • Car Battery - especially if you don’t use you vehicle regularly or only do short journeys.
  • Coolant – make sure there is sufficient anti-freeze and make sure it’s at least half full all of the time.
  • Tyres – make sure they are well above the minimum legal level and consider investing in winter tyres or snow socks
  • Screenwash – keep it topped up and make sure the concentration is suitable for low temperatures – down to -10 degrees.
  • Wiper blades – check for damage and don’t switch wipers on when the windscreen is frozen.

Before you set off, plan your route and check to make sure there aren’t any reported problems for the route you intend to take. Always allow extra time for your journey and if possible carry an emergency kit - things like blankets, a flask of tea, snow shovel, mobile phone (fully charged) etc should the worst happen.

Clear all windows of snow and ice before you start your journey and use dipped headlights in poor visibility.
