There’s always something to do in the garden, but it is very important to keep your garden well maintained throughout the autumn months in preparation for the early frosts.

Here are ten jobs that you can do during October:

  1. As the autumn leaves start to fall, keep on top of them by clearing up regularly
  2. Cut back your perennials once they have died down
  3. Divide herbaceous perennials and rhubarb crowns
  4. Move tender and aquatic plants into the greenhouse
  5. October is the right month to plant spring cabbages
  6. This month harvest apples, pears, grapes and nuts
  7. If you have climbing roses, now is the time to prune them
  8. Put an order in for next year’s seeds
  9. October is really the last chance to mow lawns and trim hedges
  10. Lay turf and renovate old lawns.

The nights are drawing in, so get your gardening jobs done and enjoy the stunning autumn colours.
