The team from the Revive Leisure Club at The Holiday Inn, in Telford, have been working hard to help colleagues from Southwater Event Group to bring in cash for the charity and their latest challenge has helped to boost the total.
They set up a cycling challenge in Deans Square, in Telford Shopping Centre, and staff took turns to ride an exercise bicycle continuously for an incredible eleven hours.
Lynda Woodvine, of the Group’s Sports and Social Committee, who have helped to co-ordinate the challenges, said: “Our fitness suite at Revive is equipped with high specification Matrix fitness equipment, which is the same equipment used in the Lotus Formula 1 driver training centre.
“We were lucky enough to have F1 test driver Marco SØrenson as our special guest at the official opening just a few months ago, and so we decided to set up a challenge with a Formula 1 theme.”
The team decided to attempt to cycle the equivalent distance of three laps of each race circuit confirmed for the 2015 F1 race calendar – a total distance of 294km. And thanks to a super-human effort and commitment from everyone involved, they completed their challenge with time to spare.
“Things got pretty competitive during the race laps, with the team trying to beat the actual F1 warm-up lap times on the same circuit, so it made for a very entertaining challenge!” said Lynda.
During the event, shoppers had the chance to enter a free prize draw to win prizes such as an overnight stay at The Holiday Inn, a three-month family Revive membership, and official Lotus F1 merchandise signed by Marco SØrensen.
The team also launched a special fitness club offer of four months for the price of three, and £1 of every new membership signed up in January will also be donated to Macmillan.
“We’re extremely grateful to everyone in the team who volunteered for the challenge, and also to Telford Shopping Centre who kindly allowed us to use the space for our event,” said Lynda.
The team from Southwater Event Group has chosen to support Macmillan for two years rather than the more typical one year initiative, as they felt it would give them the chance to take part in more of the activities promoted by the cause throughout the year.
As well as the Revive team, employees from other companies in the Group – The International Centre, The International Hotel, Ramada Telford, and StagecraftUK – have all joined in.
