Should I install a ‘dash cam’ and what are the benefits?

A dash cam is easily fitted to your vehicles interior using a suction cup or tape mount.  The camera can record both visual and audio and there are many reasons why purchasing one is a good idea:

Avoid any "my word against yours" situations: if you are involved in an accident, a dash cam will provide supporting evidence to help you with your insurance claim.

Protection when parking: if you have parked your car and someone hits it and drives away, the dash cam can provide evidence of the hit and run.  The camera can also prove helpful in vandalism and theft.

Report reckless drivers: a dash cam can help provide evidence of someone in front of you who drives recklessly capturing the registration number and the incident.

Kids Borrowing Your Car: find out how your newly qualified driver is driving your car.

Reporting bad drivers: dash cams can be great in recording drink drivers, distracted drivers, road rage incidents and more.

Track Days - having a video of your track day experience will leave you with memories for years to come.  Dash cams can record from the moment you turn the engine on.

Choosing the right dash cam can be a minefield as you need to consider what is most important to you: megapixels or high definition, the size of lens or the angle of lens, recording quality or playback quality etc.  Cost must also be taken into account but you really do get what you pay for.
