I was wondering what people thought of the Telford Council idea to dim streetlights in a sophisticated energy efficiency scheme?
Talk of saving a million pounds a year on the street lighting bill is probably optimistic but even half of that would be worth having.
The scheme varies the amount of light given by streetlights in different areas of the area. So areas with little or no crime at night can be turned down whilst crime-spots can remain fully illuminated! Sounds a great idea.
Apart from the initial investment there seems no downside. Maybe the Council should get on with this now rather than spend the next few years in consultation processes. The democratic process can be a ball and chain but very few political decisions are genuine "no-brainers" but this idea seems to be.
