The Best Western Valley Hotel in Ironbridge welcomed guests from the Shrewsbury Mencap group, and their carers, to a special event on Monday (April 25).
The staff at the Valley Hotel raised funds to provide buffet food for the event, and worked voluntarily throughout the evening to ensure it was a success.
Lisa Snape, the hotel’s wedding co-ordinator and sales manager, said this was the fifth year they have hosted the party.
She said: “We have been holding the event since 2011 and it is always a great success with everyone in attendance, both staff and guests, having a really great time.
“Our staff all work for free and they love doing it. It's a lovely opportunity to socialise and our guests have been coming for a number of years so we feel like we know everybody.
“Mondays are a quieter night for a hotel and we are pleased that we can put the facilities to a good use.
“It also gives people with learning disabilities the chance to enjoy the hotel environment and gives Shrewsbury Mencap Group an opportunity to have a special night out; something different to the normal Monday night social group gathering.”
Mencap works with people with a learning disability to change laws and services, challenge prejudice and directly supports thousands of people to live their lives as independently as possible.
In Shropshire, Mencap has local groups in Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Oswestry and Market Drayton.
“Charities like Mencap do such good work and I believe it is important that they should be supported,” added Lisa.
“And a party really gives our guests and staff a fun night out.”
