If like us, you like your whites whiter than white, you’ll be grateful for these handy hints on how to clean and maintain your UPVC windows.

UPVC means “Un-Plasticised Polyvinyl Chloride” and many people have windows and doors in this material for their home because (a) it is stronger than traditional wooden windows and (b) it is able to maintain its shape and quality over a long period of time. However, in order to maintain this standard of quality, it needs to be cleaned regularly.

Trotfield Windows in Telford are reputable suppliers and installers of high quality Rehau UPVC doors, windows and conservatories - the best way to maintain UPVC windows correctly and effectively:

  1. Put in place regular maintenance procedures – check the condition of your windows two or three times a year.  This includes hinges and locking points.  If locking points appear stiff, you could apply a small amount of lubricant such as WD-40.
  2. Clean window frames regularly – clean away debris, dust and impurities e.g. dead insects, old lubricants etc. from the frames, nooks and crannies.  You could use a cloth or even a vacuum cleaner.
  3. Clean windows at least once a month using hot soapy water (washing up liquid is great).
  4. Dry windows with a tea-towel, piece of kitchen roll or old rag – newspaper is perfect for cleaning smears from the glass.
  5. In the event that you find a stubborn dirty spot, try applying a special PVC solvent cleaner that is safe for UPVC windows.  Avoid using abrasive materials and products or ammonia based cleaners.

Try these tips to rejuvenate and revitalise your windows!
